Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham has reportedly emerged as a loan target for EFL Championship outfit Aston Villa.

English second division outfit Aston Villa are keen on signing Chelsea’s young striker Tammy Abraham on a season-long loan, as per reports from the Birmingham Mail.

Villa manager Steve Bruce is intent on strengthening his squad as he looks to guide the team back to the Premier League, having narrowly missed out on promotion in the last season. The 20-year old Abraham has been on the Midlands’ outfit’s radar for a while now and they are hopeful of concluding a deal before the end of the month.

The English striker has been regarded as one of the finest talents to have come out of Chelsea’s academy in recent years. He made his first-team debut back in May 2016, under then manager Guus Hiddink in a 1-1 draw against Liverpool.

But, since then he has gone onto make just two more appearances for the senior side, with one of them coming in this season’s FA Community Shield defeat against Manchester City. Abraham has spent the last couple of seasons away on loan, firstly at Bristol City in 2016-17, followed by a spell with Swansea City in the previous campaign.

His spell with the Swans last time out wasn’t exactly fruitful as he managed just eight goals and five assists from 39 appearances across all competitions, with an injury hampering his progress with the Welsh outfit.

However, the 20-year old has proven himself to be a potent goalscoring weapon at the Championship level, during his time with Bristol City. He banged in 23 goals in 41 games in the second tier during his time with the Robins in the 2016-17 season, along with setting up four more for his teammates.

Villa hope to add the striker to their ranks to aid their bid for a promotion and reportedly plan on attempting to sign the two-time capped England international on a permanent deal, should they return to the Premier League next season.

Chelsea have Spanish international Alvaro Morata as their first-choice striker, who scored in their 3-2 win over Arsenal this weekend, while France’s World Cup winner Olivier Giroud will act as the backup.

The Blues did loan out Michy Batshuayi to La Liga outfit Valencia earlier this month. And letting Abraham also go out on a temporary spell would leave them slightly short-handed in the centre-forward area, should either of Morata and Giroud get injured during the course of the season.

Abraham is contracted till the summer of 2022 with Chelsea. The Englishman wasn’t part of the matchday squads for the Blues’ first two Premier League games. And Aston Villa remain confident of landing their man before the end of the month. But, it remains to be seen if new manager Maurizio Sarri sanctions a loan move for the talented 20-year old.
