Chelsea opted against the idea of signing Nabil Fekir earlier this summer as they continue their pursuit of Christian Pulisic, who is also courted by Liverpool.

According to a report from Goal, Chelsea FC held talks with Lyon over a possible move for Nabil Fekir earlier this summer. But, they later dropped the idea of signing the Liverpool target with Maurizio Sarri being fairly content with signing the duo of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Mateo Kovacic.

However, it is believed that the Italian is still keen on signing Borussia Dortmund superstar Christian Pulisic, who has been a subject of some serious transfer speculation this summer. And although the English transfer window has come to an abrupt end, Chelsea have firmly targeted Pulisic as the ideal replacement should any of their stars leave the club.

As for Borussia Dortmund, they have appeared stubborn in keeping hold of their star players this summer. But, with a host of new players arriving at the club, the black and yellows are destined to lose at least one or two of their prized superstars. Names of Julian Weigl, Christian Pulisic, and Raphael Guerreiro have been thick in the air with Pulisic, in particular, being the attractive asset.

The American whizkid, regarded as one of the best promising youngsters in world football, has enjoyed an excellent pre-season campaign, notably scoring a brace against Liverpool in the International Champions Cup. He has appeared as a lively figure under newly appointed Lucien Favre, whose fluent gameplay suits the American’s style of play in the final third.

Similarly, one should easily be forgiven to think that the 19-year-old can be ideal fit under Maurizio Sarri. Much like the Chelsea custodian Eden Hazard, Pulisic is a lively attacker, who is not afraid to take on defenders. But, what makes him an appealing target is the fact that he is an old-school winger, who is perfect for the Premier League.

Unlike many modern day wingers, the Borussia Dortmund superstar likes to drift out wide and get to the byline before putting in a flurry of dangerous crosses.

Indeed, his traits have earned him close to 100 competitive appearances for Dortmund in all competitions, during which he has scored 12 goals whilst mustering 20 assists – by no means a small feat for a player who is just 19 years of age.

Furthermore, missing out on the services of Pulisic this summer could prove to be a blessing in disguise for Chelsea as the American has been largely inconsistent throughout the second half of last campaign. Thus, waiting out for him till the winter will give Sarri time to asses the 19-year-old and his performances in this season.

That being said, Chelsea are not the only club interested in his signature with clubs like Real Madrid and Liverpool also making waves. Though a move is likely, should either of Willian or Hazard departs Stamford Bridge, which will help the Blues fund the transfer for this highly rated teenager who is more than ready to make the next big step in his career.
