Manchester United are reportedly closing in on the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal, who is also a summer target for Chelsea

According to a report by TransferMarketWeb, Arturo Vidal’s agent Fernando Felicevich is in talks with Manchester United over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Bayern Munich midfielder is also the subject of interest from Chelsea and Inter Milan.

Vidal has enjoyed one of the most illustrious careers in Chilean football history. The veteran midfielder has not just been a key part of the national side, but also for European powerhouses like Juventus and Bayern Munich. But, after three seasons at Allianz Arena, the 31-year-old is surplus to requirements for Die Roten, and is set to be offloaded this summer.

With the player set to be available for transfer, several top clubs across Europe have been alerted. Two of these suitors have been following him closely for a long time – Chelsea and Manchester United.

At Chelsea, a new era is set to be ushered in under the tutelage of Maurizio Sarri. But, midfield does not seem to be a priority area anymore after the arrival of Jorginho. The addition of the Italian international means that the manager now has a well stacked midfield unit which is only likely to be bolstered if any key player leaves.

The likes of Tiemoue Bakayoko and Ross Barkley are likely to get second chances after disappointing maiden campaigns with Chelsea. Like the Blues, the continued interest from Manchester United also comes as a bit of a surprise.

Fred has joined the Red Devils this summer. With Andreas Pereira likely to be retained after two loan spells and Marouane Fellaini renewing his contract at Manchester United, Jose Mourinho has ample midfielders at his disposal. Vidal’s addition will unnecessarily cramp a department, with the left side of the attack already putting Mourinho in a similar predicament.

Vidal’s recent fitness problems also make him an unappealing target. However, the report suggests that his agent Fernando Felicevich, who shares a good relationship with Manchester United after landing them Alexis Sanchez in January, is already in talks with the club over a possible move. Chelsea and Inter Milan are keeping a track on him as well.

If the report turns out to be true, it will likely lead to more unhappy Manchester United fans despite the stature of the player, with other areas of the squad more urgently in need of reinforcements. Vidal though, definitely looks to be on his way out of Bayern Munich, and it remains to be seen where he ends up next.
