Jeremie Boga has brought an end to his nine-year association with Chelsea, joining Italian Serie A side Sassuolo.

21-year old attacking midfielder Jeremie Boga has departed from Premier League side Chelsea to join Italian club Sassuolo for a fee of £3.6 million, the club confirmed on their official website.

The youngster joined up with the Chelsea academy in the year 2009 from ASPTT Marseille, at the age of 12 and had a rapid and impressive progression through the youth ranks. He earned his first professional contract with the Blues in 2015, signing a two-year deal.

During his time with the Chelsea youth sides, Boga went on to win two FA Youth Cups, one UEFA Youth League and an Under-21 Premier League title as well. However, the versatile attacking midfielder never really got a chance to make a mark for the first team, spending most of his senior career away on loan.

Boga’s only appearance for the Blues’ senior side came in August last year, in a Premier League game against Burnley. However, it lasted for only 18 minutes as he was subbed off, following Gary Cahill’s early shower.

The 21-year old has had temporary stints away at Stade Rennais (2015/16) and Granada (2016/17), before spending the last term at Birmingham City. He made 35 appearances for the EFL Championship outfit, scoring 2 goals and setting up three more.

Boga had expressed his frustration over not getting enough chances for the Blues’ senior outfit last season, stating that he would leave the club if there was no guarantee of first-team football at the Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to Foot Mercato (h/t Daily Mail), he had said, “I have clear ideas about my future. This is my third season on loan. I have a lot of experience [after] the end of the season and I feel ready for next year to either fight to try to establish myself at Chelsea or to leave the club. I do not really want another loan.”

The one-time capped Ivory Coast international has signed a four-year contract with the Italian outfit, who finished eleventh in the Serie A in the 2017/18 campaign.

Boga’s exit is the second permanent departure from Chelsea this summer, following goalkeeper Matej Delac’s free transfer to Danish side AC Horsens.

More high-profile exits are expected from the Stamford Bridge before the transfer window shuts down, with star man Eden Hazard continued to be linked with a move to Real Madrid, along with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
