PSG have reportedly set their sights on Tottenham defender Danny Rose, who has also been heavily linked with a summer move to Manchester United

According to a report by The Sun, Danny Rose is the subject of interest from PSG, who are in the market for a new left-back in the summer transfer window. Manchester United have also been linked with the English defender, who looks set to leave Tottenham.

Rose is coming off his worst ever season for Tottenham, if not in his entire senior career, as a spate of injuries restricted him to a mere 17 appearances across all competitions. The real problem though, lies in the fact that he failed to usurp Ben Davies as Spurs’ first-choice left-back even when he was fully fit.

Nevertheless, his reputation of being one of the best left-backs in the Premier League remains intact, which explains why Rose continues to be highly sought-after in the transfer market. Manchester United have been heavily linked with the 28-year-old. But, the England international also finds himself on PSG’s radar now.

The left-back slot has been a major problem area for Manchester United in recent seasons. Luke Shaw was supposed to be the true successor to Patrice Evra. But, the young Englishman has struggled to stamp his authority due to injuries and poor form.

His inconsistencies have forced Jose Mourinho to field the likes of Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo, Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young in the left-back slot over the last two seasons. Among these, only Young has managed to make the position his own. But, while the veteran Englishman is enjoying a second lease of life at Manchester United, he is on the wrong side of 30 and won’t be around for long.

The need to sign a left-back has been urgent for Manchester United. Rose has been one of several left-backs who have been linked with the Red Devils. But, recent reports have suggested that he is not a priority anymore, with Mourinho instead setting his sights firmly on Alex Sandro.

There have also been suggestions that Shaw will get one final chance in the upcoming season, although his Manchester United future remains uncertain. In all this, Rose’s bid to secure a move to one of the best clubs in the world remains on the edge. But, PSG could come to the rescue.

Thomas Tuchel reportedly does not trust Layvin Kurzawa to be his first-choice left-back next season, while Yuri Berchiche has already joined Athletic Bilbao. PSG have thus, been in the market for a left-back this summer. The likes of Alex Sandro and Raphael Guerreiro have been linked with Les Parisiens, although they haven’t managed to make much of a progress in pursuit of either defender.

Rose is thus, a viable target for PSG, who could have a free run at him, with Manchester United no longer in the fray. But, the 28-year-old is unlikely to be a bargain buy, with three years still left on his deal with Tottenham. Daniel Levy will be tough to negotiate with, but a deal could certainly be secured if Rose forces through a move.
