Manchester United are interested in the services of David Alaba this summer but could face stiff competition from Real Madrid.

Following seven long years of service, David Alaba could finally bid Bayern Munich adieu this summer with Manchester United and Real Madrid vying for his signature. According to the latest report from Transfermarketweb, both of these European giants could go all out for the Austrian international, who could reportedly cost €60 million.

Alaba, 26, is regarded as one of the most accomplished left-backs in the world. Having spent his entire professional career at Bayern barring a loan spell at Hoffenheim, his current contract with Bayern runs until 2021. The Austrian international has been a key part of Bayern’s first team from an early age, making over 300 appearances in all competition.

During his time at Bavaria, Alaba has won as many as 13 major trophies, including the Champions League in 2012/13 season. Having said that, Alaba’s future could be in serious doubt this summer. As many other Bayern players, the 26-year-old is also allegedly seeking new adventures and a big money move could be on the horizon.

Speaking to Austrian news outlet Kurier, about a month ago, Alaba opened up about his future at the club, stating,”I am aware that I one day will have to make the decision, and I still feel great here,” Alaba said. “But I can also imagine taking a different path, making the next step or seeking a new challenge.

“But I leave that open for now. I have goals for this season I want to reach. That’s why there is no place for those thoughts right now,” he added.

Manchester United, in particular, have been long linked with a move for the Bayern Munich defender. And the Red Devils certainly need his services now more than ever, as they look for a reliable option in the left back position this summer.

Even though Ashley Young has done an incredible job in that particular area of the pitch, the English international has already entered the final phase of his career while Luke Shaw faces an uncertain future with the club. Additionally, reports have been rife regarding the potential departures of Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind this summer, thus accentuating the need of a top-class left-back and Alaba fits the bill like no other.

That being said, Real Madrid could pose a strong fight to Manchester United for David Alaba. The European champions are also eager to sign a left-back this summer in an attempt to bolster their defensive unit.

Even though they already boast the services of arguably the most gifted left-back in the world in the shape of Marcelo, the Brazilian international has struggled with frequent injuries throughout his career. Thus, newly appointed head coach Julen Lopetegui is keen to secure a reliable option in that area, especially with Theo Hernandez failing to make an impact in his debut campaign.

Therefore, we could certainly hope for an intriguing transfer battle between two of the biggest in European football as they look to sign the highly rated Bayern Munich defender this summer.
