Toni Kroos is reportedly ready to leave Real Madrid this summer, with a move to Manchester United on the cards

According to a report by Spanish outlet Don Balon, Toni Kroos is entertaining the idea of following Cristiano Ronaldo out of Real Madrid in the current transfer window. Manchester United hold a long-standing interest in the German midfielder, and are ready to make an initial approach for him.

Kroos has taken his career to the next level since joining Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014. The last four years have seen him combine with Luka Modric and Casemiro in what has arguably been the best midfield triad in the world during this period.

It has thus, been hardly surprising that Real Madrid have achieved a lot of success in the last four years, winning three UEFA Champions League titles in a row among other honours. This summer though, Kroos’s future at the Bernabeu is uncertain, with Manchester United keeping a close eye on his situation.

A summer revolution seems to be brewing at Real Madrid, with Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo calling it quits. Amid a summer squad overhaul, Kroos is of the opinion, as per the report, that he has reached his ceiling at Real Madrid. And, Manchester United are poised to launch the offensive for him.

The continued interest from Manchester United does come as a bit of a surprise though, with midfield well stacked with options. The retirement of Carrick did open up a space in the squad. But, that void was filled with the signing of Fred.

With Marouane Fellaini signing a new deal and Andreas Pereira returning from his loan spell from Valencia, Jose Mourinho has as many as seven midfielders at his disposal. Kroos’s arrival from Real Madrid, while being a shot in the arm, could leave the Manchester United boss uncomfortably loaded with options.

But, it does go without saying that Kroos will be as close to a like for like replacement for Carrick as Manchester United can get. For now, he remains in Mourinho’s plans. With the player open to leaving Real Madrid, we could see a move to Manchester United pan out.

Negotiations for a possible deal could be conducted swiftly as well, with Germany ousted from the World Cup in the group stage. What does seem certain is that the Real Madrid squad next season will look completely different to the one that fans have grown accustomed to in recent seasons.
