AC Milan have reportedly proposed a stunning swap deal to Chelsea, which would see Gianluigi Donnarumma and Alvaro Morata swap clubs.

According to a report by Corriere dello Sport, AC Milan are looking to tempt Chelsea to part ways with Alvaro Morata in the summer transfer window by proposing a swap deal. The Rossoneri have offered Gianluigi Donnarumma to the Blues in exchange of the Spanish striker.

Donnarumma has been widely regarded as one of the best young goalkeepers in the world, having made a stunning impact for AC Milan since breaking into the first-team setup at the nascent age of 16. Since then, he has gone on to cement his place as the No. 1 for the Rossoneri, having been one of the most consistent performers for them in recent seasons.

Alvaro Morata, on the other hand, has only been a regular at the club level for one season – for Chelsea in the recently concluded campaign. But, the Spaniard’s performances petered out after a strong start, scoring just one league goal after the turn of the year and losing his place to Olivier Giroud towards the end of the season.

An underwhelming maiden campaign has put Morata’s Chelsea future under a cloud, with Chelsea open to selling him if a right offer comes their way. His uncertain position has piqued the interest of several clubs, including AC Milan, who were left dismayed by the inconsistent performances of Nikola Kalinic and Andre Gomes.

But, the Rossoneri cannot afford to spend big once again, like last summer, with possible Financial Fair Play sanctions looming over their head. As a result, they are now weighing up possible swap deals, including for Morata, and are looking to tempt Chelsea with an offer than includes Donnarumma.

Donnarumma’s own position at Milan is uncertain, with the player’s relationship with the fans at an all-time low, which has seen his agent Mino Raiola looking to force through a move away from San Siro. With Pepe Reina arriving at the club on a free transfer, the Rossoneri can afford to sell Donnarumma.

Chelsea hold a long-standing interest in Donnarumma, and are set to enter the market for a goalkeeper, with Thibaut Courtois’s contract talks reaching a head. As a result, the Blues are ready to part ways with the Belgian shot stopper, and are now scouring the transfer market for a top class replacement.

With Milan ready to offer Donnarumma as part of a swap deal, Chelsea can avoid paying €70 million for him and see Morata go the other way. The West Londoners can then use those funds to sign a replacement for the Spanish striker, with Robert Lewandowski among those linked.

This is a deal that is highly likely to happen, considering the positions of the players and the clubs looking to sign them. With no real competition to sign Donnarumma, we could see the young Italian plying his trade with Chelsea in the Premier League next season, with Morata returning to Serie A.
