Liverpool have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Alisson, having lodged a €65 million bid to land the AS Roma goalkeeper this summer.

According to a report by Brazilian outlet Terra, Liverpool are accelerating their operation to secure the services of Alisson in the summer transfer window. The Reds have offered €65 million to AS Roma for the Brazilian goalkeeper, looking to complete a quickfire deal for him.

Alisson enjoyed quite a stunning 2017-18 season with AS Roma, stepping out of the shadows of Wojciech Szczesny and establishing himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A. The responsibility of being a first-choice goalkeeper at Stadio Olimpico brought the best out of the 25-year-old, who kept 22 shut outs in 49 appearances across all competitions.

His exploits for the Giallorossi has also helped him cement his place as the Brazil No. 1 for the World Cup. But, Alisson’s Roma future is uncertain heading into Russia 2018, something he has already alluded to, with Liverpool and several other clubs hot in his pursuit.

The Reds seemed to have finally found a solution to their goalkeeping woes in the second half of the season as Loris Karius produced several eye catching performances to evidently nail down the No. 1 slot. That was until last month’s Champions League final, where his two blunders cost Liverpool dearly against Real Madrid.

Those two blunders have put his position as the first-choice goalkeeper under threat, with Karius likely to be demoted once again next season, although he is likely to be kept on board at Liverpool ahead of Simon Mignolet, whose time at Anfield seems to be up.

A top class goalkeeper, thus, seems to be the need of the hour for Liverpool, who have been linked with a number of shot stoppers in recent weeks, Alisson being one of them. And, while Real Madrid are reportedly his preferred destination, there hasn’t been any forthcoming interest from Los Blancos.

The Merseysiders, therefore, have all the impetus to quickly secure a deal for Alisson, and have duly submitted a €65 million bid for him, which will shatter the transfer record for a goalkeeper. But, Liverpool will have to move quickly during negotiations if they are to sign the 25-year-old imminently as he has already iterated that he wants his future resolved before the World Cup.

If not, the contract negotiations will have to be held off until after Brazil’s World Cup campaign, which could potentially put the deal off until next month. So, while Liverpool are the only side making the move for Alisson, they will need to accelerate their negotiations with Roma and the player in order to land him in the next few days.

But, it is highly likely that the move will have to wait till July, with Brazilian squad already in Russia and rearing to kick off their campaign in less than a week’s time. Liverpool though, have taken big steps in pursuit of Alisson, and could just end up solving their goalkeeping woes for good, with Real Madrid not in the picture yet.
