Arsenal have emerged as favourites to sign Freiburg’s Caglar Soyuncu, with player’s agent confirming ongoing talks between the two clubs.

Premier League giants Arsenal are on the verge of making another transfer coup this summer, having been linked with a move for Caglar Soyuncu. The Freiburg defender is highly tipped to join the Gunners next season after his agent confirmed ongoing talks regarding his transfer to the Premier League.

According to reports from Sun Sport, Mustafa Dogru, the agent of Caglar Soyuncu, has admitted that the talks between the clubs are progressing well and it’s only a matter of time before they announce his transfer to Arsenal.

Speaking to Turkish Football Dogru claimed: “Mislintat has been keen on Caglar since he was at Borussia Dortmund. He first scouted him back in Germany. Sven is interested in Caglar, there are concrete talks, all that remains if for a free to be agreed. We will see what happens next.”

Soyuncu, who found resounding success in the Bundesliga, is currently one of the most promising defensive talents in European football. After making a move from Turkish second division to the German top flight, the youngster has emerged as a key defender for SC Freiburg, making over 50 appearances in two seasons. His impressive performances have helped the minnows Freiburg to stay up in the Bundesliga whilst also reinvigorating their defensive backline.

Arsenal, on the other hand, are desperate to strengthen their defensive department this summer. Following the departure of Arsene Wenger, newly appointed head coach Unai Emery is keen not to replicate the mistakes of his predecessor. For that reason, the former PSG boss has already identified defence as a weak point in Arsenal’s roster.

In fact, the Gunners have already signed Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer from Juventus. The Swiss international will be a huge boost to their defence, largely thanks to the vast experience he brings along with him. The North London giants are also close to completing a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis and are believed to be interested in Uruguayan international Lucas Torreira.

However, while Arsenal are keen to add a bit of experience into their defence for next season, it’s equally important to add youthful exuberance in the squadron, thus, making Caglar Soyuncu a useful addition for Arsenal.

The Turkish international has already shown immense potential in one of the biggest leagues in the world and is more than ready to make the next big step in his career. Arsenal, in particular, can provide him with a perfect platform to take his game to a whole new level, thanks to their ability to nurture young talents.

Currently tied to Freiburg due to contractual obligations till 2021, Caglar Soyuncu is valued around £35m, which is a snip in the market for a club like Arsenal these days. It would be interesting to see how the 22-year-old centre-back copes with the pressure of playing in the Premier League.
