Arsenal head coach Unai Emery is considering selling Alexandre Lacazette, who emerged as a shock target for Fenerbahce this summer.
According to shocking reports from Turkish news outlet Fotomac, Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette could be on the verge of joining Fenerbahce this summer. The report boldly claims that the Frenchman has emerged as a top target for the Turkish giants, with Arsenal ready to consider selling the star striker.
Fenerbahce head coach Aykut Kocaman is apparently looking for a striker, who can partner alongside Roberto Soldado as they look to pose a tougher challenge to Turkish champions Galatasaray next season. The ex-Tottenham striker scored eight goals last season, but it wasn’t enough as the Aslansar edged Fenerbache to the title.
The Istanbul outfit also boasts the services of another former Tottenham striker in Vincent Janssen. But, the addition of Alexandre Lacazette will no doubt be a step up from those respective strikers when it comes to goalscoring prowess.
Arsenal, on the other hand, have gone through a rough couple of months, as it seems. After a disappointing season, the Gunners have had to deal with the departure of the legendary Arsene Wenger.
However, the appointment of Unai Emery has crept in a layer of optimism among Arsenal fans, as they look to usher in a new era under the former PSG head coach.
The North-London giants are also expected to undergo a squad overhaul this summer, having failed to qualify for the Champions League in the past couple of seasons, especially in the attacking department.
The Gunners lost the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott in the 2017-18 winter transfer window, leaving the likes of Lacazette and Welbeck as important cogs in the attacking department. Although the addition of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan earlier this year has minimized the game-time of Alexandre Lacazette, the Frenchman still remains a vital part of their attacking department.
The former Lyon striker scored 14 goals in his debut season with Arsenal, which may seem rather dull for a player of his calibre. That being said, Lacazette’s useful cameo in the final stage of last season helped Arsenal finish the season on a strong note.
The Frenchman scored five goals in his last six Premier League matches while scoring three goals in the UEFA Europa League knockout fixtures against Atletico Madrid and CSKA Moscow.
Furthermore, star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was very ineffective at times last season, despite scoring ten goals in 13 matches since joining the club in January. Therefore, Lacazette’s presence will hand Unai Emery with an alternative, who is more than capable of making a huge difference.
Additionally, Lacazette’s current contract with Arsenal expires in 2022, meaning its highly unlikely that the Frenchman will leave the Emirates just one year after joining the club for a staggering fee of €53 million.
