Liverpool have agreed on a deal with Olympique Lyonnais regarding star forward Nabil Fekir, who could reportedly cost them €65 million.
One of the most hyped transfer sagas for the past few months is on the verge of reaching its conclusion, as Liverpool have finally managed to strike a deal with Nabil Fekir. The Olympique Lyonnais forward has been linked with a move to Merseyside for a long time now and looks all set to embark on a new journey as he makes the highly anticipated move this week.
In fact, latest reports from RMC Sport claim that the French international has already passed his medical in France, and Liverpool could announce his arrival later today.
According to reports from L’Equipe, the star attacker will move to the Premier League for a fee of a staggering €65m, which could potentially increase as much as €72m due to added bonuses.
Fekir, who drawn keen interest from some of the top clubs in Europe this summer, including Bayern Munich and Arsenal, will become Liverpool’s third high-profile signing for next season. He joins the list alongside the likes of Naby Keita and Fabinho with the Reds still being expected to continue their spending spree this summer. Jurgen Klopp, in particular, will be delighted to have secured the signing of Fekir, should the transfer go through.
Highly regarded as one of the best attackers in French top flight, Nabil Fekir has been the rising star of European football this season.
The French international scored 18 goals whilst chipping in with seven assists, ultimately helping Lyon to secure Champions League qualification as well as giving last season’s defending champions AS Monaco a run for their money. Even though Fekir’s performances in Ligue 1 have been good in the past few years, the 24-year-old definitely had the best campaign of his career this season, which has alerted a host of top clubs.
Liverpool, on the other hand, were in dire need of someone like Fekir, especially after the departure of Philipe Coutinho earlier this year. The Brazilian superstar moved to Barcelona for a fee of €120m, which, in turn, allowed Liverpool to splash the cash on Fekir this summer.
Known for his outstanding technical abilities, the 24-year-old will prove to be a fantastic addition to this Liverpool team, who have shown tremendous potential over the past few months.
Although Fekir’s playing style can be compared to Southampton’s Sofiane Boufal, the Frenchman is way more accurate and efficient when it comes to his dribbling and overall ball distribution in the final third. He was Ligue 1’s second best dribbler last year, which is a no mean feat considering the fact that the French top flight boasts some of the best up-and-coming dribblers.
Overall, Nabil Fekir is undoubtedly a world-class talent who can strengthen Liverpool’s attacking department. His ability to play a variety of positions already makes him a unique component in the final third and if he can stay healthy, he will no doubt improve the already lethal-looking Liverpool side.
