Liverpool have reportedly entered the race for Thibaut Courtois, with the Chelsea stopper set to be on the move in the summer.

Spanish publication Don Balon have sensationally claimed that Liverpool are the freshest competition for Real Madrid in pursuit of Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian is being linked to Real Madrid and PSG and speculations of his exit from the Bridge are rife after Chelsea ended contract talks with the keeper and his camp.

Thibaut Courtois was one of the bright sparks of an otherwise underwhelming 2017-18 campaign for Chelsea. While the Blues still managed to lift the FA Cup, their Premier League defence was an embarrassment, with the Blues also failing to secure Champions League football for the upcoming campaign.

Courtois had already been tipped to sign the dotted line at Chelsea, but the failure to secure Champions League football saw the contract talks being drawn out for far too long. And according to recent reports, Chelsea finally decided to end the talks while also being open to listening to offers for the Belgian, which would come as a huge boost to Real Madrid and PSG.

PSG are looking for a better number one, with the French heavyweights often having to swap between Alphonse Areola and Kevin Trapp at the said position. Courtois’s quality has never been in doubt and PSG’s financial prowess would mean his contract requirements are met without much fuss.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, have been looking for someone to replace Keylor Navas in goal. While their primary target has always been David de Gea, Courtois’s insistence of his heart being in Madrid and him wanting a return to the Spanish capital could see Madrid target the Belgian in the summer.

But, Liverpool have shockingly entered the race for Courtois. As absurd as it may sound, if Chelsea are set to be open to offers for Courtois, Jurgen Klopp should jump at the opportunity of landing the Belgian, with the goalkeeping department already costing them more results than they can afford, the latest example coming in Loris Karius’s disastrous showing in the Champions League final defeat against Real Madrid.

Liverpool have signed Fabinho and seem to be prepared to let go financially, in order to strengthen their side for the upcoming campaign. While Chelsea might be opposed to the idea of strengthening a rival, should Liverpool come in with a humongous offer, it would be tough for the Blues to turn the deal down, considering Courtois and his contract standoff.

Real Madrid though, will be looking to move quickly and utilise Courtois’s personal preference as the weapon to beat Liverpool and PSG to the Chelsea superstar. One way or the other, the Belgian is likely to be one of the names out the door.
