Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with Lazio that will see Sergej Milinkovic-Savic join United in a deal worth more than €95 million.

Spanish journalist Diego Martinez has sensationally claimed that Manchester United have already agreed a deal to facilitate the first arrival of the summer. The Red Devils have reached an agreement worth €95 million along with add-ons with Lazio to bring Sergej Milinkovic-Savic over to Old Trafford in the summer.

Diego Martinez is a Spanish journalist who has done freelance work for credible news outlets like MARCA, Mundo Deportivo and Diario AS. He was one of the first ones to break the news of Manchester United’s agreement with Arsenal over the transfer of Alexis Sanchez.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has been linked with a move away from Lazio since the summer of 2017. But, the 2017-18 Serie A campaign with Lazio has further established his credentials as a quality midfielder, with an astounding return of 12 goals and 4 assists in the league alone – 14 goals and 9 assists in all competitions.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a while now, with Manchester United one of the prime clubs in contention for the Serbian international’s signature. United’s midfield options are set to reduced by a couple of names, with Michael Carrick joining the backroom staff while Marouane Fellaini is likely to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Jose Mourinho has been hinting at additions to his midfield options, especially a player who can ably assist Paul Pogba, with Nemanja Matic forming the bedrock of a 3-man midfield. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s height combined with his close ball control and ability to provide goals from midfield represents a skill-set similar to Paul Pogba’s.

Also, every title-winning side has the ability to bring in goals from players other than the striker(s), something Milinkovic-Savic has already proven himself at.

According to the report, United have agreed a deal that is set to cost them €95 million along with some add-ons, with contract talks set to commence between the club and the Lazio star’s representatives. Martinez claims that Nemanja Matic played an influential role in convincing his compatriot to join Manchester United.

Whether Martinez’s report turns out to be true or not remains to be seen. But, if Milinkovic-Savic does join Manchester United, this will be a great coup for the club and step towards the right direction, with Jose Mourinho potentially getting the final piece of the jigsaw puzzle that is the 3-man midfield.
