Barcelona are reportedly considering making a summer move for AFC Ajax youngster Kasper Dolberg in the upcoming transfer window.

According a report from Spanish publication Don Balon, Paco Alcacer may be departing from Barcelona in the summer and the Catalan giants have already begun looking for possible replacements, who could step in for Luis Suarez in the starting lineup when required and also give him competition.

One of the candidates for the said position that Barcelona currently have their eyes on is Ajax wonderkid Kasper Dolberg. Last season could be seen as the Danish international’s ‘breakout’ campaign, where he racked up 23 goals and 8 assists in 43 games across all competitions.

This term, however, has been another story entirely. Dolberg has only managed to find the net eight times this season  in 23 appearances across all competitions. He has failed to recreate last season’s form and then picked up a foot injury which kept him out for nearly three months.

However, he is a player of unquestionable talent and at only 20 years of age, he is a great prospect for the future. He reportedly fits the kind of profile that Barcelona are looking for in a striker and the club hierarchy are said to have read some very extremely positive reports about him.

Suarez, who turns 32 midway through next season, has been Barcelona’s first-choice striker since the day he made his debut for them in 2014. He has scored 150 goals and provided 82 assists in 193 appearances for the club since then, but Barcelona do need to start thinking about the future.

Suarez, a former Ajax striker himself, has been fairly inconsistent this term in front of goal. Paco Alcacer capitalized on the former Liverpool hitman’s bad form and seemed to be making the most of his time on the pitch, before injury struck.

The Spaniard hasn’t been able to force his way back into the squad after his return and may look for a move away to try and resurrect his career. Dolberg is, thus, a viable target for Barcelona, who could have a long-term solution in the Dane – 10 years younger than Suarez.

Barcelona are getting younger with each passing transfer window and Dolberg could be a great addition to the squad as he could be groomed as a long term replacement for Suarez, while also ensuring that the Uruguayan doesn’t get too complacent due to the lack of competiton.

Tall, strong, quick and clinical in front of goal, the Danish international would fit in nicely with Lionel Messi & co. He is equally comfortable scoring with both feet and like every other Ajax player, he is technically adept.

This seems like the right time to take the next step in his career and there are few places on the planet better than Barcelona for him to continue his development and fulfill his vast potential.
