Fabinho is reportedly eager to force through a move away from AS Monaco this summer, with Manchester United his preferred destination.

According to a report by The Sun, Fabinho is set to seek a move away from AS Monaco in the summer transfer window. The Brazil international is keen on joining Manchester United, who saw a move blocked for him by the Ligue 1 champions last summer.

Fabinho has become a household name in Europe since playing a pivotal role in AS Monaco’s sensational Ligue 1 triumphing campaign last season. The ensuing summer transfer window saw the principality club being picked apart player after player, with the Brazilian among those who were targeted by a number of clubs across Europe.

However, Monaco ended up blocking a move for Fabinho, who has since, been key to their fortunes once again this season. The 24-year-old has made 39 appearances across all competitions for, although he has a modest return of 7 goals and 5 assists. Nevertheless, he remains a highly sought-after player in the transfer market, with Manchester United leading the chase for him.

At Old Trafford, Fabinho could become a key member in two different positions – midfield and right-back. In the former area, Manchester United are set to lose Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick, who is set to retire at the end of the season, with Jose Mourinho set to prioritise the addition of a midfielder in the summer.

As far as the right-back slot is concerned, Matteo Darmian is the only natural backup to Antonio Valencia, who himself is on the wrong side of 30. With Darmian heavily linked with a summer exit from the club, Manchester United might just be eyeing Fabinho as a two-way solution for them.

His ability to link-up play at a quick tempo as well as his prowess on dead balls potentially make him an asset to Mourinho. The player too, is keen on a move to Manchester United, and is ready to force through an exit from Stade Louis II after Monaco blocked his departure last summer.

The fact that Jorge Mendes, who is also Mourinho’s agent and has fantastic relations with Manchester United, represents Fabinho gives the Premier League heavyweights an edge in pursuit of the player. The report suggests that any suitor will need to pay £55 million to land the 24-year-old, which shouldn’t be much of a problem for the Red Devils.

It now remains to be seen if Monaco grant Fabinho his wish and let him move to the Premier League in the summer. What is certain is that the player wants the switch to Manchester United, who are set to make a move for him when the transfer window opens in July.
