Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on Faouzi Ghoulam, and are set to table a €30 million bid to land the Napoli defender this summer.
According to a report by French outlet RMC Sport, Faouzi Ghoulam is the subject of interest from Manchester United, who are set to enter the market for a left-back in the summer transfer window. The Premier League heavyweights are set to table a €30 million bid to land the Napoli defender.
Ghoulam joined Napoli from Saint-Etienne in the summer of 2014 and has since, been a key member of the squad that has gone on to play one of the most eye catching football in Europe in recent seasons. In the current campaign, the Partenopei have been right up there in a Serie A title race that looks to be headed down the wire.
While Ghoulam did play a key part in Napoli’s title pursuit in the first half of the campaign, his season has come to a premature end due to a gruesome knee injury. Before sustaining the problem, the player had made 17 appearances across all competitions, providing solid cover at the back while also bagging 2 goals and 5 assists.
His future though, seems to be away from San Paolo, with several clubs interested in signing him. The latest in the long line of suitors are Manchester United, who are eager to sign a left-back in the summer transfer window.
Jose Mourinho has deployed Ashley Young as a makeshift left-back for much of the campaign. But while the veteran Englishman has done a fantastic job in an alien position, he is on the wrong side of 30, making left-back reinforcement an urgent need for Manchester United, especially with Luke Shaw on the edge at Old Trafford, as per reports.
Shaw seemed to have turned his Manchester United career around after several top notch performances between December and February. But, the youngster seems to be at loggerheads with Mourinho following the Red Devils’ FA Cup win over Brighton last month, and is reportedly set to be shown the door by the manager.
Ghoulam is, thus, a viable target for Manchester United, who are set to test the resolve of Napoli with a €30 million bid. The Premier League heavyweights have already contacted the player’s representatives, and are ready to move quickly to secure his services, with several other English clubs interested as well, as per the report.
Ghoulam is set to return to training imminently and should regain fitness well in time for next season. What remains to be seen is if he will spend the best years of his career at Napoli, or if Manchester United manage to swoop him away.
