Carlos Soler is reportedly on Real Madrid president Florentino Perez’s summer transfer wish list, and could be on his way to the Bernabeu.

According to a report by Spanish publication El Confidencial, Carlos Soler is the subject of interest from Real Madrid, where Zinedine Zidane is looking to revamp his squad in the summer transfer window. The Valencia midfielder could be on his way to the Bernabeu if Los Blancos shell out his €80 million release clause.

Carlos Soler is one of the gems of the latest generation of senior footballers in Spain. Having joined the fabled youth academy at Valencia as an 8-year-old, the player progressed through the ranks at the club before breaking into the first-team setup last season. Since then, he has grown in stature remarkably and is now a mainstay in midfield for Los Che.

The arrival of Marcelino at the Mestalla this season has been the perfect antidote for Soler, who has gone on to feature 28 times for Valencia in the current campaign. And while a return of a solitary goal and five assists may seem modest, the youngster has been a creative hub for Los Che, who are aiming for a stirring fourth-placed finish this season in La Liga.

His exploits have not gone unnoticed either, with several high profile clubs setting their sights on him. Soler might not be at Valencia for long, with Real Madrid one of the clubs that are aiming to land the player in the summer transfer window.

Zinedine Zidane does not really have a shortage of midfielders at his disposal. But, he might be in need of one in the summer, with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, who have both made up the core of the Real Madrid manager’s successful outfit, being heavily linked with a move away from the Bernabeu.

Beyond the duo, Zidane does have the likes of Dani Ceballos, Mateo Kovacic and Isco to line up in midfield. But, while Ceballos hasn’t managed to command the faith of the Real Madrid boss, Isco is being lined up for a move by Manchester City.

Soler is, thus, a viable target for Los Blancos, who could have a long-term solution in midfield in the player. The youngster could also line up in more advanced positions, potentially making him an asset for Real Madrid, if signed.

The interest in the 21-year-old also represents a recent shift in Real Madrid’s transfer policy, wherein they have largely tried to sign budding Spanish talent to create a core of players from the country, much like the great Barcelona side under Pep Guardiola.

The only obstacle in their way is the €80 million release clause in Soler’s contract with Valencia. The figure hasn’t posed much of a problem for Real Madrid, historically speaking, and if they decide to pay the sum, Los Che would stand powerless, meaning the player might be on his way to the Bernabeu in the summer.
