Uruguay comfortably beat Czech Republic 2-0 to reach the China Cup Final courtesy of goals from Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani.

Uruguay have reached the China Cup Final where they will meet Wales in the friendly international tournament. Goals from Barcelona forward Luis Suarez and PSG’s Edinson Cavani were enough for the South Americans to beat the Czech Republic.

The result means now the Czechs will face China in the third-place decider after Wales defeated the hosts 6-0 in a thumping manner days ago. The result for Uruguay will be viewed as proper preparation against strong European opposition.

Uruguay put on an excellent attacking display to down the Czechs where the attackers led by Suarez and Cavani took 14 shots at the Czech goal, with 5 of them on target. This is an area they might want to improve when playing at the World Cup, but of those shots, two went past Czech goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka.

Uruguay were the bright starters and soon started attacking Czech Republic’s defence. Around the 10th minute mark, Pavlenka brought down Suarez inside the box resulting in a penalty, which the Barcelona striker duly dispatched the kick, smashing the roof and well past the goalkeeper, 1-0.

Uruguay could have extended that lead had Matias Vecino’s header gone past the goalkeeper. Soon after, Czech Republic showed their mettle and attacked the South Americans with renewed vigour, and could have equalised, only for Fernando Mulsera to save from an Antonin Barak shot smartly at the base of the post.

Mulsera, however, since that moment, was hardly tested by the Czech attackers, as they huffed and puffed but could do nothing more to crack open the Uruguay defence.

Uruguay did eventually double their lead after Edinson Cavani scored from a spectacular overhead kick around the 37th-minute mark. Initially, there were doubts about Cavani’s position before the goal was scored, although the linesman adjudged it onside, allowing Cavani to execute the spectacular overhead kick. 2-0

The second half was more of the same story, as Uruguay controlled the game better to see off their European opposition. The Uruguay defence held their line well and did not allow Czech attackers even a whiff of the goal. Uruguay’s attackers tried to extend their lead further, but could not.

The Czechs had another fantastic opportunity to get a goal back, but Patrik Schick spurned the chance, heading wide from six yards. That opportunity summed up the game for the Czech Republic, who are not in line to face hosts China for the third place in this tournament.

Uruguay, with this win, have set up a challenging clash in the Final against Wales, who beat china 6-0 in their first game. Will Suarez, Cavani & Co be able to beat Bale and his Wales side in the Final?
