Chelsea are plotting a summer move for Luke Shaw, whose tumultuous career at Manchester United appears to be coming to an end.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Chelsea have set their sights on Luke Shaw, who they’re ready to offer an escape route out of his troubles at Manchester United. The England international’s spell at Old Trafford appears to be coming to an end following the latest public criticism by Jose Mourinho.

Shaw arrived at Manchester United in the summer of 2014, with his stock rapidly skyrocketing and a booming reputation. But, it has largely been downhill at Old Trafford for the player, who has struggled for game time, owing to injuries, poor form and fitness.

Current manager Jose Mourinho has publicly criticised Shaw on several occasions, the latest being after Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Brighton in the FA Cup. The fresh outburst over his performance has taken away all talks of a possible resurgence, and it looks like he is set to depart from Old Trafford.

But, Shaw continues to have high profile suitors tailing him. Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has indicated that the player will do well at Tottenham, and now, Chelsea are weighing up a summer move for him.

Antonio Conte does have two options for the left wing-back slot in Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso. But, the Spaniard’s future at Chelsea is uncertain, with several clubs, coincidentally including Manchester United, reportedly being linked to him.

Shaw is, thus, a viable target for Chelsea, who have reignited their interest in him after being snubbed for the move to Manchester United in 2014. At 22, the England international could possibly be a long-term solution for the Blues, should he get his career back on track.

Shaw’s camp is aware of the interest from Chelsea as well, and the player is likely to weigh up his options at the end of the season. Manchester United, on the other hand, would prefer selling the 22-year-old, who has just one more year left on his current deal at Old Trafford.

It now remains to be seen if Chelsea can finally secure the services of Shaw, four years after first losing out in his pursuit, or if there is more life left in the player’s Manchester United career.
