Manchester United are interested in Blaise Matuidi and will reportedly move for the Juventus midfielder when the transfer window reopens.

According to TransferMarketWeb, Manchester United will move for Blaise Matuidi in the summer transfer window. The report entails that the Juventus midfielder is one of the players on the top of the recruiting list for the summer and will be the subject of a bid from United provided Jose Mourinho is still at the helm.

Blaise Matuidi has been linked with Manchester United for a long time now. Even before the midfielder opted to join Juventus from PSG, Manchester United were one of the parties vying to add the Frenchman to their squad and only signed Matic after they lost to Juventus in pursuit of the former PSG man.

Matuidi’s maiden season at Juventus can be classified as a successful one so far. 38 appearances in all competitions to date with 3 goals and 2 assists to his name as well, the 30-year-old has done a commendable job of adding steel to the Juventus midfield, something that was much needed after the departure of Paul Pogba.

Matuidi though, is on the radar of Manchester United, with Jose Mourinho looking to unite him with compatriot Paul Pogba in order to field a midfield three. He could pair up with Matic and act as the enabler to unlock Paul Pogba’s attacking ability without the burden of tracking back and maintaining his position in midfield.

Matuidi is an excellent ball retriever and would add some dynamism to the midfield. With Michael Carrick set to hang up his boots and Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera seemingly on their way out of the club in the summer, the 30-year-old Juventus man could be a potent short-term addition to the squad while allowing the likes of Scott McTominay and other academy hopefuls to learn, grow and ultimately take his place when the time comes.

Manchester United though, will have a tall task at hand, the task of convincing Matuidi to switch clubs after just one season at Juventus. The task will be made even tougher by the fact that Juventus are still fighting for the league title and the UEFA Champions League while Manchester United have bowed out of both.

Still, the prospect of working under Mourinho combined with the financial and illustrious lure of the Premier League could just make Matuidi leave Juventus for United.

The move might have short-term feasibility for United but, if Juventus do end up asking a hefty amount for the 30-year-old, Jose Mourinho would be wise to focus on other targets. This rumour is a move that depends entirely on Juventus and their stance surrounding the availability of the midfielder.
