Liverpool target Timo Werner has revealed his ambition of playing in the Premier League, with Manchester United being his favoured destination.

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner has admitted that he hopes to play in the Premier League in the near future. The striker is a transfer target for Liverpool, but has gone on record stating that he would prefer a move to the Reds’ bitter rivals Manchester United, as per an interview with FourFourTwo.

The 22-year old has made quite the reputation for himself over the past couple of seasons. Having joined Leipzig in the summer of 2016 from VfB Stuttgart, Werner fired them to a second-place finish in the German Bundesliga and qualification to the UEFA Champions League. He finished the 2016/17 season with 21 goals and 7 assists in 31 league games.

Werner has continued to enhance his reputation and has scored 16 times already along with 4 assists in 33 matches across all competitions. And this has seen him attract strong interest from across Europe with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal all being linked.

However, it is Liverpool that are reported to have shown the strongest interest in signing him. It is believed that the Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of the player’s abilities. But, Werner has seems to have poured cold water on their hopes of landing him, by claiming that he dreams of playing for their fiercest rivals.

As quoted in the interview by FourFourTwo, Werner said: “Yes, playing in the Premier League is a dream for me. I would like to play for two or three clubs, and Manchester United are one of those clubs.

“Manchester United and Liverpool were the teams I watched quite a lot in England. They were the two that I’m a little bit a fan of, because they have so much history. When Alex Ferguson was the coach, United won everything and were outstanding.”

“When I have to decide, I’m more Manchester United than Liverpool. I’m now at a point where at some stage in the future I’d like to play in a team that wins titles.”

Werner has a contract with RB Leipzig until the summer of 2020. He is currently valued at £50 million, but his value is expected to rise in the coming months, as he is set to lead Germany’s charge in the FIFA World Cup in Russia in the summer. A number of teams are expected to battle it out for his signature ahead of the next season, but based on his statements it is clear that Manchester United will have an edge on Liverpool, if they decide to enter the race.
