Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Emre Can from Liverpool and are looking to beat Juventus in pursuit of the German midfielder.

According to a report by Italian publication Sport Mediaset, Real Madrid have set their sights on Emre Can, who is set to become a free agent in the summer. Juventus also have a long-standing interest in the Liverpool midfielder, and are looking to sign him on a Bosman deal as well.

Can finally seems to be fulfilling the potential that prompted Liverpool to acquire him in the summer of 2014. Now a key member of the first-team squad at Anfield, the player has progressed leaps and bounds under the tutelage of Jurgen Klopp, also adding more goals to his game – he has 5 goals and 4 assists in 32 appearances so far.

But, while Can has started adding more layers to his game at Liverpool, his time at the club seems to be coming to an end. The German international’s deal with the Reds will run out at the end of the season, and there have been no developments over a renewal. Instead, he is being heavily linked with a summer exit, with Juventus and now, Real Madrid in his pursuit.

The Bianconeri have been tailing Can for a long time now, having attempted to sign him last summer as well. In fact, Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta has already publicly asserted the club’s intention to sign him next summer, and the club is reportedly in talks with the player already.

Massimiliano Allegri does already have a gamut of central midfielders at his disposal. But, Sami Khedira is likely to return to the Bundesliga in the summer, which is why Can is being eyed as a replacement for his compatriot. But, Juventus now face stiff competition from Real Madrid in his pursuit.

The interest from Real Madrid could possibly stem from the fact that the likes of Dani Ceballos, Mateo Kovacic and Isco are being heavily linked with a departure from the Bernabeu due to lack of game time. So, having monitored him for a while nowLos Blancos appear set to make a move for Can.

With no transfer fee potentially involved, personal riches could become a big factor, and Juventus might have to loosen their purse strings in order to beat Real Madrid to Can’s signature.

As far as Liverpool are concerned, it is now a matter of when than if as far as the player’s departure is concerned and it remains to be seen which way he heads off to in the summer, with Real Madrid and Juventus set to engage in a head-to-head battle for him.
