Olivier Giroud moved on from a super-sub role at Arsenal to Chelsea to feature more regularly, as well boosting his chances for a place in France’s World Cup squad in the summer.

According to the Mirror, former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud feels after he moved on to join Chelsea, described them as a ‘perfect club’. Giroud has already made a positive impact in his new surroundings in west London and hopes to get back playing more games and featuring for France at this summer’s World Cup.

He had a frustrating last few months at Arsenal, with limited playing time in the Premier League and starting games only in cup competitions and the Europa League. Arsenal sanctioned an unusual sale of the striker within London and to top-four rivals Chelsea on deadline day of the January transfer window.

Giroud has started only one game in the Premier League this season for Arsenal and was growing frustrated in a bench role, hampering his chances of playing at the World Cup in Russia. After the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Arsenal, it was imperative he moved, as it meant no more chances for him at Emirates.

His signing coincided with back to back defeats for the Chelsea in the Premier League, but after winning against West Brom recently, where Giroud started the game, the French international has hailed his new club. Giroud feels Chelsea is the perfect club to further continue his career in the Premier League.

He said: “It’s been a while since I played regularly and that’s why I needed to move. I needed a new challenge, and Chelsea was the perfect club for me.

“It’s the Premier League, a club which has won more titles in the past ten years than any other. It’s a massive club, and I am very proud to be here and to carry on my career in the Premier League.

And since his £18 million move from Arsenal, Giroud made a positive impact when called upon. In the victory over West Brom, a game which was his full debut for Chelsea, Giroud impressed, especially after setting up Eden Hazard’s opening goal.

The French star won three FA Cups at Arsenal but has now joined a club which has won the Premier League title twice in the last three seasons. While Arsenal play in the Europa League and no FA Cup, Giroud, on the other hand, will compete again in the Champions League as well the FA Cup for Chelsea.

He said: “I am back in the FA Cup and the Champions League, and we are going to take the games step by step.”

“We want to qualify in the FA Cup, and then we have three big games to come against Barcelona in the Champions League and then Manchester United and Manchester City away.”

“That’s why we need the confidence high. We just need the momentum.” he added.
