As the transfer window draws to a close, and Arsenal representatives in Germany to thrash out a deal, the pressure is on Arsenal. Aubameyang had not featured for two matches in a row, but started and played the entire 90 minutes of the draw with Freiburg on Saturday. With that appearance, Dortmund showed their hand to Arsenal and stated that if the valuation was not matched, they were in no need to sell the striker.

Arsenal are set to pay €63 million plus bonuses for the Gabonese’s sale and the deal is set to be announced within the next two days. Aubameyang will join former Dortmund teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan as Arsenal’s big signings in the summer.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has had a prolific time at Dortmund, scoring 141 goals since moving to the club in 2013/14 from St. Ettiene. Last season was his most prolific season, scoring 31 league goals and being named top goalscorer in the Bundesliga, beating Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski in the process.

He has been disenchanted with life at Dortmund since the end of last season and he openly expressed his desire to move away from the club. With no suitable offer received during the summer, Aubameyang stayed at the club and has since scored 13 goals in the league this season.

A transfer wish finally granted, Aubameyang could be the goalscorer Arsenal need and with the crop of players present at the Emirates, he is expected to score plenty of goals for the North London giants. His reported price tag of €63 million will eclipse the £52 million Arsenal paid for Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon and make Aubameyang the club’s record signing.
