Tottenham have reportedly initiated talks with Dele Alli over a bumper new deal, amid continued interest from Real Madrid

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Tottenham have taken the first steps to secure the long-term future of Dele Alli. The English midfielder is set to be offered a £100,000-a-week deal, with Real Madrid interested in signing him in the coming summer transfer window.

Alli has become one of the hottest properties in the game, having truly been a revelation for Tottenham since moving from MK Dons in 2015. The significant leap from the third division to top flight football hasn’t fazed the player one bit, and he has gone on to establish himself as a pivotal figure for both club and country.

One of the first names on Mauricio Pochettino’s team sheet, when fit and available, Alli has already made over 100 appearances for Tottenham, with a fantastic record of 41 goals and 34 assists. And even though 2017-18 has been somewhat underwhelming for him, the 21-year-old remains highly regarded as an exciting prospect.

Some of the biggest clubs in the world have shown interest in the England international in recent times, but none of the suitors have been more heavily linked than Real Madrid. Real Madrid do have two of the best attacking midfielders in Europe in Isco and Marco Asensio, with the latter starting to flourish in the number ten role.

Real Madrid’s interest in the Tottenham midfielder is, thus, quite surprising, although Alli could also slot into the midfield trio, although he is not as creative as Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. Regardless, Alli is a player who Real Madrid is adamant on bringing to the Bernabeu.

Tottenham though, are determined to keep the player away from the clutches of Real Madrid by offering him a bumper new deal. The North London club has already held informal discussions with the 21-year-old, and formal talks should begin soon.

The new deal would see him pocket £100,000 per week, which would nearly double his current wages and make him among the highest paid players at Tottenham. The player is settled at the North London club and is admittedly happy, especially with Spurs starting to flourish in the Champions League as well, including the big win over Real Madrid this season.

It now remains to be seen how talks progress in the coming months, with Tottenham keen on tying Alli down to a long-term deal. Real Madrid, on the other hand, may have to step up their interest in order to secure the services of the player.
