Arsenal have reportedly submitted an enquiry for Boca Juniors winger Cristian Pavon, who has a £27 million release clause in his contract.

According to Daily Mail, Arsenal have taken one step further in pursuit of Cristian Pavon. Arsenal have submitted an enquiry for the Boca Juniors winger as the Gunners aim to prepare themselves for life after Alexis Sanchez, who is most likely to exit the club, with Manchester City being his preferred destination.

Cristian Pavon joined Boca Juniors in the summer of 2014 and was immediately loaned out to CA Colon in order to gain first-team experience. Soon after Pavon’s return to the club though, the 21-year-old broke through into the first-team setup at Boca Juniors and became a force to be reckoned within the continent.

The present season is no different, with Pavon playing every match for Boca in the Argentinian league. A return of 3 goals and 6 assists in 12 games also bodes well for the player. In fact, it is his rising stature that has caught the eye of European clubs, more precisely the Premier League.

Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal are all reported to be interested in the 21-year-old. But, while Liverpool look to be focusing more towards Thomas Lemar and Riyad Mahrez, Manchester City are all set to land Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, satiating both the clubs’ need for addition in attack.

Arsenal are not new entrants in the race for Pavon. They have been linked with the player for a while now. The Gunners are in desperate need of addition in attack, especially if Alexis Sanchez opts to move in January itself. Arsene Wenger will be looking for an electrifying prospect to replace the Chilean, which has seen them shift their focus to Pavon.

All of 21, Pavon will bring in much of that youthful exuberance and fearless ability that has seen Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison take the league by storm, after arriving from Argentina’s neighbours Brazil. Pavon signed an extension at Boca Juniors mid-2017 and still has a considerable time left on his new deal.

But, another interesting report is the presence of a £27 million release clause in his deal, which could encourage Arsenal. And while the release clause is present, Arsenal have submitted an enquiry to Boca Juniors in an attempt to figure out whether the Argentinian giants are willing to negotiate at a pedestal lower than the buyout clause.

Boca are not looking to part with the player mid-season and before the end of Copa Libertadores, which eventually sees only one option left for Arsenal – to meet the buyout clause. £27 million for an untried 21-year-old could be a gamble, but it is one that Arsenal have to start taking in order to breathe some life into their squad.
