Manchester United are ready to launch a winter move for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, who’s also on the radar of Serie A giant Juventus.

According to reports from Italy, Manchester United are reportedly preparing a £31 million bid for Andre Gomes and are looking to steal a march on Juventus. The Portuguese has failed to earn manager Ernesto Valverde’s trust and has started just 2 La Liga games under the former Barcelona player.

The former Valencia man swapped Mestalla for Camp Nou for a reported £27 million in the summer of 2016. Gomes made 30 league appearances for Blaugrana in his debut season. However, has seen his game time limited under new Barcelona manager Valverde, making just 8 league appearances this season.

Despite being an absolute peach of a gem in the passing department, the Portuguese isn’t rated highly by Valverde and could be sold this January. This season has also seen Gomes’ position being usurped by €40 million Barcelona summer-signing Paulinho, who has been in good form, scoring 6 times in 16 league appearances.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have the likes of Pogba, Herrera and Fellaini at their disposal in central midfield. However, with Fellaini’s contract up next summer and Herrera looking for greener pastures in search of more playing time, the Red Devils are short on options in midfield and are looking at some young but experienced alternatives.

At 24, and having already played at one of the biggest club in the world, Gomes looks a steal of a deal.

A transfer fee of £31 million is mooted to entice Barcelona in selling their man, who can play along centre, left or right midfield. However, Juventus is apparently also one of the clubs looking to offer a warm welcome to the Portuguese.

The Bianconeri are willing to add a young, dynamic player to their ageing lineup and are looking to offer Gomes an escape route. It was reported that Juventus were lining up a bid for Gomes in the summer. But, the Serie A giants were unsuccessful in their attempt as Barcelona were holding out for a higher price.

The Old Lady have revived their interest and could start a bidding war with the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham for securing the Portuguese’s signature.

Given that Gomes’ contract runs up till 2021, Barcelona won’t be in a hurry to sell Gomes on cheap and of course there won’t be any shortage of suitors for the 24-year-old.
