Manchester United have reportedly received the green light to launch a January bid for Alex Sandro, who is also a target for Chelsea

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Alex Sandro, with Juventus open to selling him for the right price. The Brazilian defender is also being tailed by Chelsea, who unsuccessfully attempted to sign him in the summer as well.

Sandro’s career has progressed considerably since he joined Juventus from Porto in the summer of 2015. The player has been a key figure for the Bianconeri over the past two seasons, and is now regarded among the best left-backs in the world.

His exploits have not gone unnoticed either, with several high profile suitors vying for his signature in the summer. It was believed that the player wanted to leave Juventus as well, with Chelsea the favourites to sign him, before their £65 million bid was rejected by the Italian champions.

The Blues have not accepted defeat in their pursuit of Sandro though, with Antonio Conte still eager to bolster the left wing-back slot. The Italian manager currently has just Marcos Alonso as a natural left sided defender, making his pursuit of another top left wing-back understandable.

But, the Blues are not alone in their chase of Sandro, with Manchester United also aiming to sign him. The report suggests that the Red Devils are now the front-runners in the race to land the Brazilian, who is high on Jose Mourinho’s transfer wish list.

The Manchester United boss has been eager to sign a new left-back in January, thanks in large part to the struggles of Luke Shaw. The prolonged absences of the Englishman has forced Mourinho to deploy other makeshift options on the left side of defence, with just Ashley Young capitalising on the chances afforded to him.

But, the veteran England international is now 33 and not a long-term option, making Sandro a viable target. Meanwhile, Shaw seems to be in the mood tor resurrect his Manchester United career, and Mourinho could also find a way to keep the youngster, contrary to what has been reported thus far.

As far as Sandro is concerned, he would be a top class signing for either club. Juventus, too, seem open to relinquishing his services in January, and will seek £60 million for the player. It now remains to be seen if either club makes the move for Sandro when the transfer window opens in a couple of weeks.
