Real Madrid have reportedly joined Chelsea and Liverpool in the race to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund in January

According to a report by TransferMarketWeb, Real Madrid are scouring the possibility of signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the winter transfer window. Los Blancos have joined Chelsea and Liverpool in pursuit of the Gabonese striker, who looks set to leave Borussia Dortmund in the middle of the season.

Aubameyang has evolved into a prolific powerhouse during his time at Borussia Dortmund, scoring bagful of goals over the last few seasons and going head-to-head with Robert Lewandowski to win the Golden Boot in Bundesliga.

Aubameyang has been in fantastic form once again so far this season, with 20 goals and 3 assists in 22 outings across all competitions. But, it has hardly been a happy campaign following a failed exit in the summer, either for the player or the club, who reprimanded him recently for arriving late for training.

His problematic ways now seem to have finally caught up to him, with Dortmund prepared to sell him in January. Unsurprisingly, clubs are ready to snap him up when the transfer window opens next month, despite his troublesome persona, with Chelsea and Liverpool among those who are eager to sign him.

At Chelsea, Michy Batshuayi’s inability to prove himself as an able deputy to Alvaro Morata has forced Antonio Conte to often field Eden Hazard in the false nine role whenever the Spaniard has been unfit. The situation is hardly ideal for the manager, making Aubameyang a viable target as he sets about signing a striker in January.

Liverpool, on the other hand, could be in need of a top striker to add to Jurgen Klopp’s options, with Daniel Sturridge looking likely to leave in order to boost his World Cup prospects. With Danny Ings still not at peak fitness, the Reds boss could be left with just Roberto Firmino and the inexperienced Dominic Solanke as his options.

Aubameyang has, thus, emerged as a top target, who could bolster Jurgen Klopp’s options up front considerably. But, the Premier League duo now face stiff competition for the Gabon international, in the form of Real Madrid.

The Spanish and European champions have struggled to be their domineering best in front of goal, with Karim Benzema going through an extended spell of slump in form. Besides the French striker, Zinedine Zidane has just Borja Mayoral at his disposal, with the inexperienced striker still not ready enough to lead the line week in week out.

Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile, has continued to look a far better option as a winger than as a striker, accentuating the need to sign a striker. The top targets for Real Madrid are reportedly Mauro Icardi and Harry Kane, but neither striker will be available in January, or even next summer, in all likelihood.

Aubameyang is, therefore, an ideal target, who could provide the best years of his career to Real Madrid. The player has also not hidden the fact that it would be a dream come true to represent Los Blancos, handing the club a distinct advantage in pursuit of the player.

The bone of contention for the striker is that he will not be able to play in the Champions League for any of the clubs when the Round of 16 commences in February. But, all three clubs will be able to offer him a way out of his misery at the Signal Iduna Park while also being able to represent a top European club.

So, with Aubameyang seemingly destined to call time on his spell at Dortmund in January, it remains to be seen where his next destination would be, with Real Madrid the latest to join the race to sign him.
