Tottenham are reportedly plotting a January move for former Liverpool midfielder Suso, who is currently plying his trade for AC Milan.

According to an exclusive report from Calciomercato, Tottenham are looking to reinforce their midfield come January with a bid for AC Milan midfielder Suso when the transfer window reopens. The former Liverpool man has been on the radar of Tottenham for a long time.

Suso joined Liverpool as a player touted as a budding youngster. But, with little to no senior opportunities afforded to him at Anfield, the player was mostly sent out on loan and ultimately ended up at AC Milan, who bought the midfielder in a low-money move.

And after spending a while on loan at Genoa, the player established himself at AC Milan in the 2016-17 campaign. The 2017-18 season has only seen him further grow as a dominant figure in the squad, with 6 goals and 6 assists in 21 games this season so far.

Tottenham are looking to reinforce their midfield and wing. And with Suso equally adept at playing in both of the aforementioned positions, the 24-year-old is a viable target for Pochettino & co. Suso though, has just signed a new five-year deal at AC Milan in September.

One thing worth noting is the fact that the new contract contains a release clause of €50 million – which is more than twice the amount that Tottenham had offered to AC Milan in order to sign him in the summer transfer window. This could give Tottenham some encouragement in the Spaniard’s pursuit.

And while AC Milan will unlikely want to negotiate a lower transfer fee, Tottenham should take encouragement in the fact that they atleast know a maximum price if they do want to land the 24-year-old.

The release clause does seem fair as well, with the player fresh off having signed a new five-year contract at the club along with his importance within the first-team setup at AC Milan.

Suso too, could want a move in the upcoming window(s). AC Milan’s summer foray into the transfer market saw several top talents arrive at San Siro. With the arrivals, there was a sense of expectation of the fallen giants’ re-emergence.

15 games into the season though, the Rossoneri find themselves floundering at 8th place, already falling 18 points behind the current leaders – Inter Milan. Tottenham on the other hand have established themselves as one of the title contenders in the Premier League and a force to be reckoned with in European competitions.

A move to the North Londoners would provide Suso with the opportunity of returning to the Premier League. At 24, Suso would now like to add some trophies to his footballing career and while Tottenham haven’t exactly won any trophies recently, they do look to be on the right path.
