Manchester United are reportedly ready to step up their interest in Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic after having the player scouted over the weekend.

According to an exclusive report from Italian publication Calciomercato, Manchester United are ready to step up their interest in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Lazio star was watched by Manchester United scouts on Sunday as the player scored one and assisted another in a 2-1 win over Sampdoria.

Milinkovic-Savic is one of the many youngsters that are part of a Serbian revolution, which has seen several young players emerge as worthy stars in Europe. The Serbian international has taken the Serie A by storm after arriving in a low-money move from Genk in the summer of 2015.

Lazio has benefited from the 22-year-old’s arrival in Italy. The midfielder has a steady record of 15 goals and 13 assists in 92 senior appearances for Lazio. But, it is the Serb’s creativity, tenacity and his ability to connect with his teammates on the pitch which has lent more success to the Italian outfit.

The player was on the radar of Juventus, Manchester United and Manchester City among many other top European sides in the summer transfer window. But, Lazio’s brilliant start to the 2017-18 campaign has thrust even more limelight on the 22-year-old and his ability to dictate the proceedings.

Manchester United have now decided to step up their interest after the latest bout of scouting mission, which saw United scouts in attendance as Milinkovic-Savic gave evidence of his match-defining ability, with a goal and an assist in 2-1 win over Sampdoria on Sunday.

Marouane Fellaini looks set to be on his way out of United and with the Belgian one of the major contributors from midfield as far as goals are concerned, Mourinho is looking to replace the Belgian and his contribution. And while Milinkovic-Savic is not as prolific as Fellaini has been for United, the 22-year-old has the same penchant for scoring important goals.

Lazio Sporting director Igli Tare already revealed the fact that Lazio had rejected a €70 million bid for the Serbian in the summer transfer window. But, there are indications that the club, which is currently fifth on the Serie A table, will be willing to do business for a bid close to €80 million.

There seems a bleak or rather close to no real possibility of the player leaving in the upcoming transfer window. However, the summer might be a different story altogether. Another thing worth pointing out is the player’s price tag, which may be subject to modification depending on his performances for the rest of the season.

United though, remain one of the main suitors and the scouts in attendance seems more like Mourinho wanting to stay up-to-date on the player’s current form, development and other factors.
