Chelsea are considering to renew their interest in Stoke keeper Jack Butland, with Thibaut Courtois being continuously linked to Real Madrid.

According to Daily Mail, Chelsea are attempting to lay down succession plans in case Thibaut Courtois does end up leaving the club in the near future. The Blues are lining up a move for Stoke keeper Jack Butland if and when the Belgian decides to quit Stamford Bridge, with Real Madrid and more circling around the custodian.

Jack Butland is undoubtedly one of the brightest prospects and was perhaps, the best bet as the future of English National Team for the goalkeeping position before the rise of Jordan Pickford. Still, Butland remains a prized asset for the Three Lions and Stoke as well, who have seen the player overcome a dreadful long-term injury layoff.

Butland has only managed 2 shutouts in 11 league appearances so far this season and is currently set to remain out for a couple of weeks with a fractured finger. However, the 24-year-old had pulled off great saves during his period of return and looked to be coming back into his groove.

Throughout his career, the player has been linked with top English clubs, with interest from Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and others at different stages of his career. Chelsea though, are taking a serious look at Butland, especially with Thibaut Courtois not ready to commit to a new deal.

The Belgian is being linked with Real Madrid, who are reportedly on the look out for a world-class goalkeeper to add to their squad at the Bernabeu. And while David De Gea seems to be their priority, with Kepa Arizabalaga their backup plan, Los Blancos could go for Courtois if he is made available.

De Gea looks set for a long career at United and in case Kepa ends up renewing his deal at Athletic or agrees to join some other club, Real Madrid would be glad to get a keeper like Courtois, who could be looking to return to Spain after his successful stint with Atletico Madrid.

His current deal with Chelsea runs out in 2019 and the player has put talks of an extension at hold, which is alarming for the Blues. Jack Butland would boost Chelsea’s home-grown domestic quota and would be able to provide more than half-a-decade of top-level football.

Chelsea’s interest in Butland dates back to his Birmingham days, wherein he rejected advances from the Blues to join Stoke. And if the Potters do get ready to negotiate Butland’s transfer, they are likely to ask around £30 million – the price paid by Everton to land Jordan Pickford – and upwards.

Butland is a player that is bound to leave Stoke at some point of time in his footballing career, for a move up the ladder. And if Courtois does end up leaving, we could very well see the 24-year-old be the main man between the posts for Chelsea.
