Real Madrid have reportedly reignited their interest in Paulo Dybala, who is being targeted as a potential replacement for the struggling Gareth Bale.

Spanish publication Don Balon have reported that the search operation for Gareth Bale’s replacement is gathering pace. Los Blancos have rekindled their interest in Paulo Dybala, and are set to make a move for the Juventus attacker next summer.

Dybala’s career has been on an upward trajectory ever since he joined Juventus in the summer of 2015. Having arrived in Turin with a burgeoning reputation of being one of the most exciting young attacking talents in Europe after a fantastic three-year spell with Palermo, the player has been nothing short of a revelation for the Bianconeri.

In all, Dybala has an impressive tally of 56 goals and 20 assists in 112 appearances for Juventus, but it is his record so far this season that has people discussing him in the same breath as some of the best players in the world.

While the Italian champions have stuttered to an extent at the start of the campaign, the 24-year-old has only gone from strength to strength, with 14 goals and 2 assists in 18 outings. Having been one of the most consistent performers in Serie A over the past few years, clubs have well and truly taken note of his talent.

Leading the chase for the nippy Argentine are Real Madrid, who look in desperate need of some inspiration in attack. The Spanish and European champions were the dominant force in Europe last season, but have looked a pale shadow of their usual commanding selves.

Los Blancos’ attack, in particular, has struggled a lot so far this season, with Cristiano Ronaldo struggling to assert his authority and Karim Benzema in the middle of an extended slump. Gareth Bale’s persistent injury troubles have only made matters worse, putting a lot of burden on the young shoulders of Marco Asensio.

And it now looks like Florentino Perez is ready to take matters into his own hands. Bale’s time at the Bernabeu seems to be coming to an end, with his fitness problems arguably making him a liability, and the Real Madrid president has identified a potential replacement in Dybala, who is currently one of the most prolific attackers in Europe.

The La Liga heavyweights have monitored the Argentine’s progress for a long time, and are set to launch the offensive for him next summer. The major sticking point in his chase though, is the sizable transfer fee Juventus will command for him.

Real Madrid are planning to offload Bale first in order to fund the move for Dybala, with a player plus cash offer on the cards. But, the Welshman is not keen on a move to Italy, and is only willing to return to the Premier League, preferably to Tottenham, while Manchester United continue to be linked with the Welshman.

It now remains to be seen what course of action Real Madrid take in order to secure the services of Dybala as they start chalking out the plans for life without Gareth Bale at the Bernabeu.
