Manchester United are reportedly plotting a bid to sign Danny Rose from Tottenham in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by The Sun, Manchester United are set to step up their pursuit of Danny Rose, with Jose Mourinho keen on signing a left-back in January. The Tottenham defender is open to making the move away from North London, and could be on his way to Old Trafford.

Rose has been one of the core members of the Tottenham squad that has been a revelation under the tutelage of Mauricio Pochettino over the last two seasons. His personal progress under the Argentine has been remarkable, with the player blossoming into one of the best full-backs in England.

Last season, his campaign was ravaged by injuries, with a knee injury in particular, bringing a premature end to his season in January. Upon his return to action for Tottenham, Rose’s future is coming under intense speculation, with things taking a turn for the worse this week.

Rose has been vocal about the pay disparity at the North London club, while also claiming that he would be open to move away in order to win trophies. And after his exclusion from Pochettino’s matchday squad against Arsenal on Saturday, his future is up in the air, with Manchester United interested in signing him.

The Red Devils have been tracking Rose for a long time now, with Jose Mourinho believed to be a huge admirer of the player’s talents. With the left side of defence being somewhat of a trouble area in the manager’s squad, they are set to launch the offensive for the England international in January.

Mourinho has had to deploy five different players in the left-back slot since his arrival at Old Trafford last season, with Luke Shaw’s troubles with form and fitness, in particular, frustrating him to no end.

While Ashley Young has impressed in the position this season, he is on the wrong side of 30. Therefore, Rose is a viable target to pursue in the winter transfer window, and Manchester United are set to place a bid for the 27-year-old.

The bone of contention though, is that Daniel Levy is unwilling to sell the player to a direct title rival, even though he is open to the move. Reports have suggested that a potential player plus cash deal involving Shaw, whose time at Old Trafford appears to be coming to an end, could turn the tide for Manchester United.

The aforementioned offer may tempt the Tottenham chairman to let go of the defender, and it remains to be seen if Manchester United are able to secure the services of Rose in the winter transfer window, with Mourinho keen on signing a left-back.
