Liverpool are reportedly showing interest in Senegalese international Kara Mbodji and are set to battle Brighton in pursuit of the Anderlecht defender.

According to an exclusive report from Turkish Football, Liverpool and Brighton have joined the race for Anderlecht defender Kara Mbodji. The Senegalese captain has been attracting clubs from all over Europe, with clubs from Italy, Russia, Turkey, England and other countries tracking the defender.

Kara Mbodji has become a household name in Belgian Pro Football since arriving at Genk in 2013. The move to Anderlecht in the summer of 2015, though not involving wads of cash, was seen as one of the best transfers and the 28-year-old has repaid the fee multiple times.

A total of 91 appearances for the Belgian giants, the player has been nothing short of a pillar at the back. However, his displays have come along with a competitive streak, which has seen the defender being sanctioned on the pitch once in less than every 5 games.

Some though, would say the cards are deemed as part-and-parcel in the career of a defender. And the interest of a host of clubs does throw some weight behind the aforementioned sentence. As per the report, there has been interest from all corners of Europe.

Two clubs that have been added to the list are Liverpool and Brighton, apart from the clubs that hail from Italy, Russia along with Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, Besiktas and other Premier League clubs. The report has confirmed the fact from the player’s agent – Ediz Balkan.

“Kara has attracted a lot of interest from Premier League sides, we held talks with representatives from those clubs in London last Sunday. There are six-seven clubs from the Premier League in talks but I can’t reveal the offers right now.”

“There were scouts from England, Italy, Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Galatasaray. We held further talks, there is an offer from England and from Turkey.”

“Kara had a great game, he received man of the match and scored the winner.” We will see what happens, the next round of talks will be back in Belgium.”

Defensively, Liverpool have been abysmal, with problems persisting in the central defence. Kara’s addition could provide some relief to Jurgen Klopp. Also, Anderlecht reportedly value the player at around £10 million, an amount that seems fair for the 28-year-old and an amount that the club would be more than happy to expend in order to land the Senegalese captain.

Brighton are present to give company to Liverpool, with Lewis Dunk a shock target for West Ham and would also love to get an established leader for the aforementioned amount in the current inflated market. There are many more clubs pursuing Kara and it would be interesting to see how it pans out.
