Borussia Dortmund have reportedly emerged as the latest suitors for Emre Can, who is also being tailed by Juventus.

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Borussia Dortmund have joined the race to sign Emre Can on a free transfer next summer. The Bundesliga heavyweights have joined Juventus in pursuit of the Liverpool midfielder, with the Bianconeri tracking him for several months now.

Can joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2014 with a burgeoning reputation of being one of the most promising young midfielders in Europe. Over the last three seasons, the player has gone from strength to strength at Anfield, and is now a key member within the first-team setup.

At the same time, though, Can has also copped a lot of flak for his inconsistencies, particularly for his tendency to drift out of games. The Germany international is closing in on 150 appearances for the Reds, although he would like to improve on his record of 11 goals and 9 assists.

Despite his misgivings though, Can’s reputation has only been on the rise in recent years, and he is quite the highly sought-after player in the transfer market. With his Liverpool contract set to run out at the end of the season, suitors are lining up to secure his services, with Juventus his long-time admirers.

The Bianconeri had to face disappointment in their pursuit of the 23-year-old in the summer, with Liverpool refusing to sell him. But, they have not conceded defeat in their bid to sign Can, with reports suggesting that he will sign a pre-contract with the Italian champions in January.

However, Juventus will not have it easy in pursuit of Can, with Borussia Dortmund emerging as the latest club vying for his signature. At Westfalenstadion, Peter Bosz has a gamut of midfielders at his disposal, but he lacks a powerful box-to-box midfielder, with Gonzalo Castro blowing hot and cold.

Can’s addition could provide stability in the middle of the park. Moreover, the fact that he will not cost anything makes him an attractive target, for both the Bundesliga outfit and Juventus.

The report though, suggests that Can could be tempted to make a return to Germany, especially at a top club like Borussia Dortmund. Meanwhile, Liverpool have not given up their on their bid to end the contract stand-off between the two parties, and get the player to sign a renewal.

Time seems to be running out for the Reds though, and it is likely that other suitors might emerge in the German’s pursuit. It now remains to be seen if Can heads off to either of his major suitors or some other club next summer.
