Manchester United are reportedly interested in Mijat Gacinovic, with Jose Mourinho on a scouting mission for the Serbian.

Jose Mourinho was spotted as one of the many spectators in the stands during the FIFA World Cup 2018 Qualifiers between Serbia and Austria. And according to The Mirror, the Portuguese was on a scouting mission, with Eintracht Frankfurt star Mijat Gacinovic the subject of interest.

He made his name and first came into recognition while playing for Serbian outfit Vojvodina before earning a move to Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt. And the player has since exploded onto the German football scene, with some stellar displays for the club.

The explosion has been carried forward on to the international scene, wherein he has made his Serbian national debut, with 2 goals in his first 2 games. Gacinovic, though, is not an entirely unknown quantity for the Premier League.

According to the report, Arsenal have been monitoring the player from his debut season in Bundesliga and have also sent scouts to watch the player in action during his previous two international games.

However, there is another twist in the tale, with Jose Mourinho being tipped off by Nemanja Matic, who has become an admirer of Gacinovic’s talent and has alerted his manager of the same.

Jose Mourinho had been looking to add a left winger to his squad throughout the summer transfer window, with no success. And while the Serbian is predominantly a central midfielder, he is equally natural on the left wing and on the right side of the midfield as well.

Also, Gacinovic is lauded for his ability to go past opponents with ease while also being able to act as the creative focal point in midfield as well. Mourinho, with injuries to Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini, could look at Gacinovic as a possible solution to both his problems.

The 22-year-old will add depth in the central midfield while also being an able player capable of being deployed on the left wing. Gacinovic is also being tailed by Bayern Munich, who have also taken note of the player’s skills and consistency for Frankfurt.

The Serbian though, has only recently signed an extension with his current club and is likely to command a sizeable transfer fee, if Manchester United or any other club wishes to go in for the player in January.

One thing is certain, however. Jose Mourinho’s presence in the stands seem to suggest that the Portuguese is serious about Gacinovic, if the player is the one he was monitoring, with various outlets pointing towards the likes of David Alaba, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Andrija Zivkovic and Dusan Tadic as potential candidates.
