Liverpool are reportedly set to reignite interest in Spartak Moscow star Quincy Promes after failure in pursuit of the winger during the summer transfer window.

According to TransferMarketWeb, Liverpool have reignited their interest in Quincy Promes. The Spartak Moscow winger was on the Premier League outfit’s radar during the summer transfer window, and with the Reds struggling to find some form recently, Jurgen Klopp is set to target the player again in January.

Quincy Promes rose from the Ajax youth academy before finding his way to fellow Eredivisie club FC Twente, where he earned his reputation and ultimately landed himself a move to the Russian Premier League in 2014, with Spartak Moscow spending upwards of £10 million to bring the player to the Russian capital.

The 25-year-old has started the present season on a brilliant note, with a total of 9 goals and 3 assists in 13 appearances in total as of yet. While Promes is predominantly a right winger, his ability to feature on the left flank and as a centre forward as well adds further value and is something that will definitely interest Jurgen Klopp.

The German manager has a knack of going for versatile forwards who can rotate within the three attacking positions, which is a strong tactical manoeuvre and does not let the defenders settle in.

Liverpool have struggled at the beginning of the 2017-18 Premier League campaign. But, recently, their attack, which has been praised, has also started to struggle in front of goal, something which was not a problem before. And, Jurgen Klopp is looking to rectify this first it seems.

The fans and pundits alike have called for defensive reinforcements to arrive and have pointed towards the failure to add a centre-back like Virgil Van Dijk in the summer transfer window as one of the few causes of their recent adversities.

Still, it looks like Klopp would focus more on the attacking front, despite the continuous calls to add quality at the back. Promes is contracted till 2021 at Spartak and would command a considerable fee, given his current form and importance to the Russian Premier League side.

It would be weird if Liverpool do go in for another attacking player, with Promes possessing skills similar to Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. The Reds are already seen as a very top-heavy side and it would be wise to spend more towards the defence and central midfield, if the need be.

The rumour might just be based on Liverpool’s recent struggles in front of goal combined with the fact that Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho being linked with moves away from the club.
