Liverpool are reportedly set to table a bumper new deal to Roberto Firmino to commit his long-term future to the club

According to a report in TransferMarketWeb, Liverpool are eager to secure the long-term future of Roberto Firmino at Anfield. The Brazilian forward, currently on a deal till 2020, is set to be offered a bumper new long-term deal by the Merseyside club.

Firmino joined Liverpool from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2015 after a fruitful four-year spell at the Bundesliga club. At Anfield, the player took no time to establish himself as a pivotal figure, combining well with compatriot Philippe Coutinho before striking a formidable attacking partnership with Sadio Mane last season.

This past summer, the arrival of Mohamed Salah has paved the way for a potentially menacing attacking quartet, featuring Fimino, as well as Mane and Coutinho. While the quartet is yet to hit their stride in the early stage of the season so far, Jurgen Klopp has a fearsome attacking unit at his disposal.

Firmino, in particular, seems to be the perfect foil for the pacy outlet that Salah and Mane provide, with his work-rate and pressing abilities making him an important member in Klopp’s first-team setup.

Firmino, though, would arguably like to improve on his current record with Liverpool – a decent return of 27 goals and 25 assists in 101 appearances. While his involvement in the build-up play is invaluable for the Reds, adding more goals to his game would make him an even bigger asset, especially considering he leads the line for Klopp’s side.

Nevertheless, the Brazilian has indeed scored more goals and provided more assists than any other Liverpool player since making the switch to Anfield.

Additionally, it is apparent that Klopp views him as a key member of his squad as he is set to hand him a bumper new long-term deal, despite three more years left to run on his current deal.

The player is expected to put pen to paper on the new contract, and the news will likely bring much cheer among the Liverpool supporters at a time when the Reds are struggling to string together a run of positive results together.
