Liverpool are reportedly showing an interest in signing Sheffield United midfielder David Brooks.

According to a report by The Sun, Sheffield United’s David Brooks has caught the fancy of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. Although the League One outfit are willing to offer the player a new contract, Brooks might find the offer to play at Anfield quite enticing.

Brooks joined Sheffield United about three years back, following an exit from Manchester City. His blistering form in the Championship has been quite consistent, having been heavily involved in his side’s attacking pursuits in the 11 appearances he has made this season, while also providing two assists.

In fact, Brooks put up one of his best displays recently in a dramatic 4-2 win the Steel City derby as he started the game as a striker, provided an assist and was adjudged the man of the match.

Despite making only three starts, his performances and versatility have made people sit up and take note of his calibre, which also goes to explain the interest from Liverpool. The youngster also earned his first call-up for the Wales’ senior squad recently.

Brooks did sign a new deal with Sheffield earlier this year, but it is understood that the club are keen to secure his services with a newer long-term deal to ward off potential suitors. Should Jurgen Klopp swoop for Brooks though, the Championship side may find it challenging to retain his services.

Klopp already has an plethora of attacking options at his disposal, meaning Brooks may find it hard to usurp the likes of summer signing Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. Furthermore, considering he is still not a regular at Sheffield United,  joining Liverpool might seem a little far-fetched.

However, Liverpool did struggle to an extent in the absence of Mane last month, while the rest of the attacking unit has frustrated with their wastefulness of late. The young attacker is not only incisive when going forward but can contribute defensively by pressing effectively.

Considering Brooks’ potential though, it comes as no surprise that Klopp has registered an interest in him. Liverpool can benefit from adding quality options up front, but the player time on field will have to bide his time. Meanwhile, Sheffield United will be fighting tooth and nail to keep hold of their prized asset.
