Chelsea are reportedly interested in Steaua Bucharest winger Florinel Coman, who has a mammoth £88 million release clause in his contract.

According to Daily Mail, Chelsea are keeping tabs on Steaua Bucharest winger Florinel Coman. The highly-rated youngster is on the radar of the defending Premier League champions, who continue to monitor the player’s progress with a view to moving for the Romanian in the future.

Florinel Coman has ventured from club-to-club in his home country. However, FC Viitorul was where the youngster finally found some form, with 6 goals and 7 assists in 28 appearances for the club. The brilliant season was followed by a move to Steaua Bucharest in the summer of 2017.

And the 19-year-old has instantly become a regular in the first-team setup for the Romanian giants, with 14 appearances so far this season and 2 assists to show for his efforts. His displays have now caught the attention of Premier League giants Chelsea, who are always on the lookout for young gems.

That the club owner Gigi Becali has reportedly inserted an £88 million release clause in the player’s contract and sees him as a player with the same talent as Kylian Mbappe further adds hype to the player’s potential.

Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo flew to Romania last week to see the 19-year-old in action as the club beat rivals Dinamo Bucharest by a solitary goal.

Coman is predominantly a left winger but is equally adept at playing on the right as well as a striker, which will be of huge benefit to Conte’s tactics, if Chelsea do decide to move for the player.

Chelsea are notoriously known for nurturing youngsters but not giving ample opportunities to the same players, instead profiting from their development financially. But, Antonio Conte has brought about a change of sorts this season, adding players like Andreas Christensen, Charly Musonda Jr. and others into the first-team setup.

Coman, though, might be an unattainable target for the Blues. Steaua owner Gigi Becali is known for his eccentric nature and is unlikely to compromise in monetary terms while negotiating a deal for Coman, which means that the Blues will most likely have to activate the mammoth release clause.

And the player has, thus far, not done anything noteworthy or anything being remotely able to justify the £88 million price tag. Coman will now be focused on proving his talent on a more consistent basis and leading Steaua, which has many other brilliant youngsters in the team, to success, domestically and otherwise.
