Dele Alli has reportedly initiated talks regarding a new deal with Tottenham Hotspur that will see him earn wages over £100,000-a-week.
According to a report by The Sun, Dele Alli could join Spurs top-earners Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris as the youngster is set to open talks with the club regarding a new deal which will see him earn above £100,000-a-week. Alli agreed new terms with the club only a year ago and his current contract runs for the next four years.
It is understood that Spurs are keen on making sure that Alli – one of their most consistent and key performers – is happy at the club. The Tottenham Hotspur star’s career has been an upward trajectory ever since he joined them from League One side MK Dons two years ago.
Alli’s goals are certainly improving as time goes on. He is good at scoring both long-range strikes as well as simple tap-ins, which only goes to illustrate his variety. The 21-year-old is playing a more advanced role at Spurs, and he is gradually developing a ruthless single-mindedness for goals.
However, in last night’s game against Swansea, Alli failed to be his usual impressive self. Despite having 75% possession and accumulating 26 shots compared to Swansea’s four, Tottenham were restricted to a goal-less draw by the relatively weaker side.
Dele Alli in particular received some heavy criticism. In fact, he has come under fire for a series of poor performances in the last few games. And, his performance against Swansea was no improvement over his other disappointing displays.
Despite the setback in terms of his inconsistent performances so far, it would be wise to convince Alli to commit to the club before a new agent agrees to represent him. The player does have plenty of the world’s biggest teams keeping their eye on the his progress, making it all the more important for Spurs to ensure he stays on.
Alli is very young and has a lot of potential, and there is no reason why the midfielder cannot develop into a world-class footballer in the coming years. The youngster is a very exciting midfielder and he does have the strength to bounce back to his usual fiery form after what has been a slow start to the new season.
