Arsenal are reportedly launching a last-minute attempt at procuring the services of Julian Draxler from Paris Saint-Germain, before the window slams shut.

According to a report by The Mirror, Arsenal are scurrying to seal a last-minute deal for Julian Draxler from PSG. The Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has identified Draxler as an alternative to Manchester City-bound Alexis Sanchez. In fact, the Chilean’s future could depend on how Arsenal fare in their pursuit of landing the young German.

Julian Draxler forced a move away from Wolfsburg in a rather controversial manner only in January, with PSG obliging the German international. While the player did prove to be an asset – scoring 10 goals and three assists – it seems like he could be on his way to join Arsenal less than a year after his arrival.

In fact, Draxler was particularly impressive in the recently-concluded Confederations Cup. Joachim Loew named him as the captain of the young German squad, and Draxler led from the front. He was also awarded the Player of the Tournament Award for his efforts, which goes to show that he has enough skill and maturity at an early age.

It is believed that Draxler is interested in leaving PSG after the French giants added Neymar to the squad. As if that was not enough, Unai Emery also has the likes of Angel Di Maria, Goncalo Guedes and Lucas Moura at his disposal. Thus, it is likely that the youngster is in search of greener pastures to ensure he gets enough game time.

With the player clearly seeking an exit, Arsenal could capitalize on the same after targeting Draxler for the last few transfer windows. Arsenal are expected to submit an offer for the German international, who is available for a fee of about £32 million.

If the move goes through, Wenger will certainly not have to worry about Sanchez’s impending exit anymore. The pressure will be immense upon the Frenchman after the embarrassing 4-0 defeat against Liverpool, making Draxler seem like a viable option.

Draxler can also partner well with his countryman Mesut Ozil. The Gunners are not in a good position right now, and that can be set right by adding a quality player up front. The young Germany international will also be a more speedier version of Sanchez, which is likely to boost Arsenal’s attack by a mile.
