Serge Aurier has reportedly agreed personal terms with Manchester United to complete his summer move from PSG.

According to Paris United, Manchester United are set to complete the signing of Serge Aurier in the coming weeks, having agreed personal terms with the player. A possible summer move from PSG, though, hinges on the outcome of his trial, with the Ivory Coast international prohibited from entering England presently.

Aurier has spent his entire footballing career in France, having progressed through the ranks at Lens before making his senior debut for the club. But, it is at PSG where the player has truly come to the fore as one of the finest right-backs in the world, having made his way to Parc des Princes in 2014.

Over the last three years, Aurier has been one of the most consistent players for Les Parisiens, proving to be reliable at the back while also providing a menacing presence on the attacking front. Last season, the Ivorian chipped in with 5 assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.

Aurier, though, has been involved in his fair share of controversies during his time with PSG, which has restricted his playing time to a certain extent. His place in the first-team setup at the club has been further put in doubt following the arrival of Dani Alves this summer, especially with Thomas Meunier usurping him towards the end of last season.

With uncertainty mounting around his position with the PSG, Aurier asked Unai Emery to exclude him from his pre-season plans. The Ligue 1 giants have granted him permission to talk to other clubs and having been linked with several suitors this summer, he now looks to be on his way to Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho publicly stated recently that he was in the market for a midfielder and a wide attacker. So while the Manchester United boss didn’t make any mention of signing a right-back this summer, the Red Devils seem to be eyeing Aurier to become their fourth signing of the current window.

Manchester United do not particularly have a need to sign a right back this summer, with Antonio Valencia cementing his place on the right side of defence. But, it is important to note that the Ecuadorian is on the wrong side of 30.

And even though he has shown no signs of ageing; with his understudy Darmian being heavily linked to a departure from Old Trafford, Aurier has emerged as a viable replacement. The player’s addition will provide two top quality options to Mourinho, who has already stressed the importance of rotation.

And at 24, he can prove to be a long-term solution on the right side of defence. A possible switch to Old Trafford, though, hinges on the outcome of his trial – Aurier has a case hanging over his head dating back to May 2016 relating to violence against police.

He is, thus, prohibited from entering England till at least August 7, when, as per Paris United, the decision will be given on the case. Meanwhile, Manchester United have agreed personal terms with the player on a five-year €4.5-5 million-a-year contract.

It now remains to be seen if there’s a favourable outcome to the aforementioned trial for Manchester United to complete the signing of the player.
