Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly set to step up pursuit of English wonderkid Jadon Sancho, with the player’s contract talks at Manchester City breaking down.

According to the Independent, Jadon Sancho is slowly edging towards the exit door at Manchester City. The player’s contract talks at the club have broken down, which has now prompted Arsenal and Tottenham to step up their pursuit of the prodigious starlet.

Jadon Sancho is one of the most highly-rated youngsters of the up-and-coming new generation of British contingent. The 17-year-old is also highly touted within the Manchester City academy setup and is marked as one for the future. Last season was a highly-prolific one for the winger.

Sancho racked up 20 goals and 8 assists in 35 appearances across various competitions for City while also notching up 13 goals in 16 games for the England Under-17s – impressive numbers for a winger. And it is this talent of his that has landed him on the radar of Arsenal and Tottenham.

Manchester City have been attempting to convince the 17-year-old to stay at Etihad and tie him down to a new improved long-term contract at the club. There were reports of talks being underway as regards to a new contract. However, as per the latest updates, the talks have broken down.

The player now has just one year left on his scholarship deal and City would be entitled to a compensation of around £3-4 million, should the player end up leaving. Arsenal and Tottenham both have been interested in the player for long.

With Alexis Sanchez and Moussa Sissoko both set to depart from their respective squads, Sancho could be tempted to make the switch if either side promise the 17-year-old a faster entry into the first-team setup, something both Arsenal and Tottenham could offer.

Sancho has also been left out of the pre-season tour of the US, where City kicked off on a disappointing note, with a 2-0 loss to arch-rivals Manchester United.

Sancho was already having doubts as to his path into the City first-team, and with Guardiola not selecting the player to go on the pre-season tour, Sancho’s mind could be made up. It will now be interesting to see where Sancho ends up.

For now though, his City career seems set to be over – even before it truly began. Sancho is a loss that could be devastating to the City academy and the club’s hopes of producing players for the first-team.
