Chelsea are reportedly back in for Borussia Dortmund superstar Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and are hoping to complete a €70 million move for the PSG target.

Spanish publication Marca are reporting that Chelsea have now shifted their attention to Borussia Dortmund superstar Pierre-Emeric Aubameyang after failure in the pursuit of Romelu Lukaku, who has joined Manchester United. The Blues are hoping to beat PSG and interest from China to land the Gabon international.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is another forward that gained much fanfare after joining Borussia Dortmund. The player joined AC Milan young and then spent many-a seasons away on loan spells before finally moving to AS Saint-Etienne – brilliant displays in Ligue 1 then saw the player being snapped up by Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2013.

The player has since taken the Bundesliga by storm, amassing 85 goals in 125 league appearances for Dortmund up until now. And in the 2016-17 season, the Gabon superstar (31 goals) managed to beat Robert Lewandowski’s tally of 30 goals to become the season’s highest goalscorer in the league.

The 28-year-old has often been linked with a move to Real Madrid while the likes of PSG, Liverpool, Manchester United and others have also been touted as potential destinations for the striker. However, the Chinese Super League looked to be where the player was headed a couple of weeks ago, before PSG and now, Chelsea entered the race.

PSG need a big-name striker to partner or perhaps replace Edinson Cavani upfront. The Argentine did manage to fill Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s boots to the best of his own abilities. But, the Swede’s absence was telling as PSG conceded the Ligue 1 crown to AS Monaco.

And Aubameyang, with his pace and finishing prowess can be the man to truly take over from Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Chelsea, though, have come in late and are attempting to land the 28-year-old after their latest mishap in the transfer market – the pursuit of Romelu Lukaku.

The Blues are now hoping to bust out the €70 million – reported to be Dortmund’s valuation of the player – to bring Aubameyang over to Stamford Bridge, with Antonio Conte already miffed at the club’s inability to land his primary summer targets.

The player is still closer to China and PSG than Chelsea. However, with the Blues desperate to land a big-name striker, they could jump ahead in the queue to sign the Bundesliga top scorer, especially with Diego Costa not in the traveling contingent for the pre-season tour and all but sure to depart the club,

The move could work out in the favour of both Chelsea and PSG. If Chelsea manage to land Aubameyang, they will cede interest in Morata, which would make Real’s move for Mbappe highly unlikely. And then PSG can get a clear run in on the AS Monaco sensation.

For Aubameyang, this would give him the opportunity to test his mettle in the most competitive league in the world. It all hinges, though, on Chelsea and Conte’s preference of striker between Morata and Aubameyang.
