Manchester United have reportedly beaten Chelsea to land Everton superstar Romelu Lukaku in a £75 million deal.

According to Daily Mirror, Manchester United have managed to hijack Chelsea’s pursuit of Everton superstar Romelu Lukaku. The former Chelsea man seemed destined to return to Stamford Bridge. However, United have swooped in and have hijacked the move in a £75 million deal.

Manchester United seemed hung on Alvaro Morata and the Real Madrid man was reported to be an imminent arrival at Old Trafford. But, Real’s continuous heckling in terms of asking price inflation left United frustrated and it looks like the Red Devils moved quickly to get an alternate player for the said position.

Lukaku will be arriving at Manchester United in a deal which will pocket him wages around the £200,000 per-week mark – a deal which is reportedly been possible in part due to the friendship between Paul Pogba and the Belgian powerhouse.

Romelu Lukaku has become one of the most lethal strikers in Europe after multiple seasons of free scoring at Goodison Park. The player has racked up a monumental 25 goals in the Premier League alone last campaign – a tally beaten only by Harry Kane in the 2016-17 season.

And it is that prolific nature that has seen Lukaku being linked with every top club in the world, especially Chelsea. As Diego Costa looks set to depart the club, Conte had earmarked Lukaku as the man to take the baton from the Spaniard and return to the club where he started his Premier League journey from.

However, Everton and Chelsea failed to arrive at an agreement, leaving room for United to swoop in. United’s move for Lukaku means the Red Devils have now ended their pursuit of Morata, something that could be a setback for Real, who planned a move for Kylian Mbappe.

Now, with Morata’s deal off, there might not be room to bring in Mbappe. Mourinho, though, will be happy with the club’s lightning quick pace to move for Lukaku – a striker he has a healthy relationship with despite agreeing the player’s sale during his time at Chelsea.

Romelu Lukaku’s physicality means the player is an ideal replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic. While the deal is around £75 million, there are other elements to the deal as well. According to reports, Manchester United have decided to waive the £10 million transfer fee for Rooney, who is set for a return to Goodison Park.

In addition to it, there are reported be £15 million or so of other bonuses or clauses, which bring the total deal up to a staggering £100 million.

Jose Mourinho’s stuttering Premier League start as Manchester United manager may not have pleased the Portuguese, who seems determined for a better campaign this time around. And it looks like the club are ready to back their manager in the transfer market.
