Bayern Munich have reportedly pulled out of their pursuit to sign teenage defensive prodigy Mateu Morey from Barcelona this summer.

Spanish publication Sport have reported that Bayern Munich have assured Barcelona that they are not pursuing a deal for 17-year-old wonderkid Mateu Morey. The news comes in the wake of reports that the teenage prodigy was set to become the latest player to leave La Masia in the summer transfer window.

Morey is the latest in the line of prodigious talents who continue to emerge out of Barcelona’s La Masia academy year after year. In fact, the 17-year-old right-back has been rated as one of the most exciting young prospects in the club’s youth setup.

A typically modern full-back, the player is known for his rampaging runs down the right flank, while also being adept at fulfilling his responsibilities at the back. Morey has also been a standout player for Spain at the under-17 level, as he helped the side win the under-17 European Championship earlier this year.

In fact, his goal in the final – his third in the tournament and one that clinched the title for Spain – had set tongues wagging, leading many to predict a bright future with Barcelona for the Juvenil B player.

Widespread reports, however, suggested that Morey’s future did not lie on the hallowed ground of Camp Nou, with Bayern Munich in hot pursuit of the youngster.

With Philipp Lahm calling it quits on his long and glittering career following the culmination of the 2016/17 season, Morey was possibly being looked at as a long-term solution at the right side of the Bayern defence.

But, the Bavarian giants have been left furious at the details of the deal being leaked, and have assured Barcelona that they are not pursuing a move for Morey. And thus, it looks like Morey will not be the latest prodigy to join the summer La Masia exodus following the departures of Eric Garcia and Jordin Mboula.

The player, instead looks set to continue his development with Barcelona with his graduation to the Juvenil A team next season. Barcelona, though, are still on their toes in case any other club attempts to make a move for Morey, with several Premier League clubs interested in signing him.
