Chelsea have reportedly beaten stiff competition from the likes of Manchester United and others to land highly-rated Ajax wonderkid Daishawn Redan.

Dutch publication VoetbalZone are claiming that Daishawn Redan has opted to join the recently crowned Premier League champions Chelsea. The Blues seem to have trumped the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, RB Leipzig and others in the pursuit of the highly-rated Ajax wonderkid.

Daishawn Redan is one of the most highly-rated youngsters present in the Ajax youth setup at the moment. The player, who plays predominantly as a striker, had already announced his plans to leave the club at the end of the present season, much to the regret of the Ajax coaches.

While Manchester City and RB Leipzig were in the running to snap up the 16-year-old, the player was touted to be heading towards Manchester United, who have earlier snapped up Millen Baars from the Ajax academy recently as well.

However, it has now emerged that Chelsea have secured the services of Redan. The news comes as a total surprise as the Blues were never reckoned to be one of the main clubs in pursuit of the prodigious striker. The report states that the 16-year-old has already penned a contract with the Premier League Champions.

The youth head Ouali had earlier expressed his disappointment at Redan’s decision of not extending his contract.

“We have mapped out a path for him and held in-depth discussions with him and his management. That there is no agreement is extremely regrettable; obviously they have something else on their minds.”

“We have made every effort to maintain a great talent as Daishawn for the club but at some point it stops. We wish him all the best with the rest of his career.”

The update will be a huge blow to Manchester United, who were heavy favourites to land the player, who himself had admitted to being interested in a move to Old Trafford.

Redan said,“I hear a lot of rumours around me and I will not deny that there are clubs that are interested. Manchester United is a very nice and good club of course and I must admit that I am interested in an adventure like that.”

However, it isn’t the first time that Redan has been reported to be set to sign for a certain club. And, it will be interesting to see if the rumours have some depth to it this time around. Manchester United, though, could also launch a late attempt for the prodigy.
